Inspiré de témoignages recueillis par Abdelhak Najib et de son livre « Une ombre sur le sable », le film retrace le parcours de Marocains ayant vécu de longues années de captivité dans les camps de Tindouf avant de tenter de regagner leur pays. Leur évasion et leur traversée du désert sont marquées par la faim, la soif et l’épuisement, dans un récit consacré à leur quête de liberté.

Le long-métrage revient sur trois périodes : 1974, année de la capture des protagonistes, 2000, celle de leur évasion, et le présent. Cette dernière partie suit le fils de l’un des évadés, qui entreprend de reconstituer l’histoire de son père. À travers cette quête, le film aborde la transmission de la mémoire familiale et collective, en donnant une place à des parcours longtemps restés peu connus.

La distribution réunit Driss Roukhe, Kamal Haimoud, Imane Kendili, Alia Bencheikh, Yassine Abdelkader et Mohamed Simoka. Les témoignages à l’origine du projet ont été recueillis par Abdelhak Najib il y a une vingtaine d’années, avant d’être adaptés pour le cinéma.

La soirée a également été marquée par un hommage à feu Mohamed Choubi, acteur ayant participé au film. Sa carrière, menée au théâtre, à la télévision et au cinéma, a marqué le paysage artistique marocain. Sa participation au film « Les Évadés de Tindouf » figure parmi ses dernières contributions au cinéma national.

Lionsgate has announced a partnership with Meta to bring The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping to theatres in 3D, marking the first time the technology company has worked with a major Hollywood studio to convert a feature film for its theatrical debut.

The upcoming prequel takes audiences back 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games story, focusing on a younger Haymitch Abernathy, the character later portrayed by Woody Harrelson.

The Marrakech International Film Festival has announced the selection for the ninth edition of its Ateliers de l’Atlas, a programme dedicated to supporting filmmakers from Morocco, Africa and the Arab world.

This year’s edition brings together 30 projects and films from 14 countries, selected from 410 applications.

The workshops will take place from November 22 to 26, alongside the festival’s wider industry programme.

Among the selected works are 14 projects still in development, 11 films in production or postproduction and five Moroccan projects included in a section called Regards sur l’Atlas.

The initiative offers filmmakers opportunities to meet international producers, distributors, sales agents and other professionals who can help bring their projects to audiences.

And the programme isn’t limited to established directors.

Several selected projects are first feature films, giving emerging filmmakers an opportunity to develop their work within an international industry environment.

This year’s edition will be mentored by Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho.

The selected filmmakers include Moroccan and international names, such as Meryem Benm’Barek, Sofia Alaoui, Yasmine Benkiran and Ismaël El Iraki.

For Morocco, the programme is also part of a wider effort to strengthen the country’s role as a creative hub.

Marrakech is already recognized internationally for its film festival.

The Jessica Chastain horror film currently sits at around 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences also giving it a pretty rough CinemaScore.

And somehow, none of that stopped it.

The movie follows a young girl who encounters a sinister entity that looks and sounds exactly like her mother.

Simple. Creepy. Very easy to sell in a trailer.

And apparently that was enough.

The film also completely overshadowed The Social Reckoning, Aaron Sorkin’s follow up to The Social Network, which opened with only around $5.5 million.

So a badly reviewed horror movie about an evil fake mother just beat a prestige drama about one of the biggest technology stories of our generation.

Cinema is beautiful.

The result also proves something horror fans have known forever.

This genre does not always need critics on its side.

Give audiences a creepy trailer, a good concept and enough jump scares, and people will still show up because sometimes the entire point is sitting in a dark room waiting to scream.

Other Mommy reportedly cost around $18 million, meaning its opening already puts it in a decent financial position.

The reviews might be brutal.

But box office numbers do not read reviews.

And right now, this “terrible” horror movie is the one everyone else is chasing.

The latest episode of the long-running reality competition brought contestants to Morocco, turning the city and its surroundings into one giant challenge.

And obviously, nobody came here to relax.

Teams had to race through unfamiliar locations, follow clues, complete tasks and somehow keep their patience intact while the cameras caught every stressful second.

Basically, Marrakech became one huge escape room.

For Moroccan viewers, that is kind of the fun of it.

We are used to seeing Marrakech presented internationally as luxury riads, rooftop dinners and “dream destination” content.

The Amazing Race gives us something much more chaotic.

Contestants are confused, running around, trying to understand instructions, making mistakes and realizing very quickly that travelling under pressure is not the same thing as going on holiday.

The Morocco episode also gives international viewers a different look at the country.

Instead of a polished travel montage, they get local settings, movement, challenges and the kind of unpredictability that actually makes reality TV work.

And if you know The Amazing Race, you know the formula.

Beautiful location. Impossible challenge. One team absolutely losing it.

Another somehow figuring everything out at the last second.

It is stressful, dramatic and weirdly addictive.

So yes, Marrakech looked incredible.

But more importantly, it looked alive.

And watching people race through Morocco while trying not to completely fall apart might be the funniest travel content we get this week.

The upcoming adaptation has revealed a new character trailer and visual for Soshiro Azami, giving fans their latest look at how the manga is being translated into animation.

And his voice might sound familiar.

Yuichi Nakamura has officially been announced as Azami’s voice actor, adding another major name to the series ahead of its planned April 2027 premiere.

If you somehow missed the internet’s obsession with Kagurabachi, the manga follows Chihiro Rokuhira, a young swordsman on a revenge mission involving enchanted blades, sorcerers and a lot of extremely dramatic sword fights.

The series became a meme almost immediately after its debut.

Then something unexpected happened.

People realized it was actually good.

Since then, Kagurabachi has built a serious fanbase, and the anime announcement has only made expectations bigger.

Every casting reveal now becomes its own mini event because fans are trying to work out how closely the adaptation will capture the manga’s darker atmosphere and action-heavy style.

Azami is an especially interesting addition because of his connection to Chihiro’s father and the wider world of sorcerers behind the story.

There is still a while to wait before the anime actually arrives.

Peugeot étend sa communication au Maroc à l’univers du cinéma. La marque, commercialisée dans le Royaume par Stellantis Maroc, a signé un partenariat avec Pathé Maroc lors d’une cérémonie organisée au Pathé Californie de Casablanca.

L’accord marocain constitue le prolongement d’un partenariat conclu en janvier 2026 entre Peugeot et Pathé. Sa déclinaison locale doit permettre à la marque automobile de disposer d’une présence régulière au sein des cinémas exploités par Pathé dans le Royaume et de développer différentes opérations destinées à ses clients et à son réseau.

Le rapprochement intervient alors que les deux groupes partagent une histoire remontant à la fin du XIXe siècle : la Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot et Pathé Frères ont toutes deux été créées en 1896.

Peugeot présent tout au long du parcours des spectateurs

Concrètement, le partenariat repose sur plusieurs dispositifs intégrés à l’expérience des spectateurs.

Les spots publicitaires de Peugeot seront notamment diffusés au sein des séances. La marque disposera également d’une visibilité dans les espaces des cinémas, notamment lors des principales sorties de films.

Des véhicules Peugeot pourront par ailleurs être exposés dans les complexes Pathé. Le partenariat prévoit aussi l’organisation d’avant-premières, de soirées privées, d’animations et d’événements, notamment en lien avec les concessionnaires de la marque.

Les deux entreprises prévoient parallèlement de déployer des actions de communication communes tout au long de l’année sur différents supports.

Cette présence dans les cinémas doit permettre à Peugeot de multiplier les points de contact avec le public en dehors de ses espaces commerciaux traditionnels.

La mobilité électrifiée parmi les axes du partenariat

L’accord prévoit également de consacrer une partie des opérations communes à la mobilité électrifiée.

Peugeot Maroc et Pathé Maroc indiquent vouloir en faire l’un des axes de leurs futures activations. Le communiqué ne précise toutefois pas, à ce stade, la nature des dispositifs qui seront spécifiquement consacrés aux véhicules électrifiés.

Cette orientation intervient dans un contexte où Peugeot développe progressivement une offre intégrant davantage de modèles électriques au sein de sa gamme internationale.

Au Maroc, les opérations menées avec Pathé permettront ainsi à la marque de présenter ses véhicules directement dans les espaces fréquentés par les spectateurs et d’accompagner ces expositions d’actions événementielles.

« Un nouveau point de rencontre avec notre marque »

Pour Hind El Youssi Tazi, directrice de Peugeot au Maroc, ce partenariat doit permettre de créer de nouvelles interactions avec les clients.

« En nous associant à Pathé, nous créons un nouveau point de rencontre avec notre marque, dans un lieu où le plaisir et l’émotion sont au cœur de chaque expérience », explique-t-elle.

La responsable estime que cette association permettra à Peugeot de faire découvrir différemment son univers et sa conception du plaisir de conduire.

De son côté, Frédéric Godfroid, directeur général de Pathé Maroc, souligne la dimension émotionnelle recherchée par les deux partenaires. « Le cinéma a cette capacité unique de créer des émotions qui rassemblent », indique-t-il, estimant que les deux entreprises partagent notamment une attention portée à l’innovation et à l’expérience proposée à leurs publics.

Le partenariat s’appuie notamment sur les implantations développées ces dernières années par Pathé dans le Royaume.

Le groupe a ouvert en décembre 2023 le Pathé Californie à Casablanca, installé au sein du Californie Mall. Le multiplexe compte huit salles et près de 1.200 fauteuils. Il comprend notamment une salle IMAX Laser, une salle 4DX et une salle VIP.

Deux ans plus tard, en décembre 2025, Pathé a ouvert un deuxième établissement à Rabat. Installé au Marché Dar Essalam, le complexe compte quatre salles pour un total de 149 fauteuils, dont trois salles VIP.

Pathé Maroc has confirmed that another Pathé cinema is set to open in Morocco in 2027, continuing the company’s expansion across the country. And while Pathé hasn’t officially revealed the location of this next opening yet, there is a pretty big clue pointing toward Casa.

Earlier this year, Le Desk reported that Tachfine Center was being prepared for a new Pathé cinema, which would give Casablanca a second Pathé location after Pathé Californie.

The Californie complex opened in late 2023 with eight screens, including IMAX Laser and 4DX, giving Casa moviegoers a very different experience from the classic multiplex setup.

Pathé has been moving pretty quickly since then. The company opened another cinema at Dar Essalam in Rabat in December 2025 and has been developing more locations through a partnership with Marjane Group.

Basically, Morocco’s cinema map is getting bigger.

And if the Tachfine project moves ahead as reported, it would also make Pathé much more accessible to people on the other side of Casablanca instead of having nearly everything concentrated around Californie.

There’s still one detail we’re waiting for: Pathé has not officially confirmed that the 2027 opening announced this week is the Tachfine Center project.

But another Casa Pathé has already been reported to be in the works.

So maybe start deciding which movie deserves the first giant popcorn.

Magic Knight Rayearth officially returns with a brand new anime adaptation premiering in Japan today, October 7.

If the name means nothing to you, welcome. If it does, there’s a decent chance your inner child is currently screaming.

The original Magic Knight Rayearth came from CLAMP, the legendary manga group also behind Cardcaptor Sakuraand xxxHolic. The manga ran in the 1990s and quickly became an anime that mixed magical girls, fantasy adventure and giant robots before mixing genres like that became completely normal.

The story follows Hikaru, Umi and Fuu, three schoolgirls who meet during a trip to Tokyo Tower and suddenly get transported to the magical world of Cephiro.

Naturally, instead of being allowed to finish their school trip, they get told they need to save an entire world.

Very reasonable afternoon.

The 2026 version starts the story again for a new generation rather than continuing directly from the old anime.

And there’s serious talent behind it.

After being rebuilt, Vision has gone into hiding while trying to figure out exactly who — or what — he is. To do that, he communicates with several AI personalities stored inside his programming.

Those include Jarvis, Friday, Edith… and Ultron.

Which feels like keeping your worst enemy in your internal group chat.

Things get worse when someone puts a bounty on Vision and he ends up on the run alongside Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious teenager who may somehow be the reincarnation of his son.

If that sounds complicated, congratulations. You understand Marvel.

The series is also clearly leaning back into one of the MCU’s more interesting questions: if Vision is technically artificial but can think, love, remember and grieve, where does the machine stop and the person begin?

And having his original creator turned enemy literally sitting inside his mind probably won’t make answering that easier.

Production on The Batman Part II has temporarily paused while director Matt Reeves deals with a family matter, according to Warner Bros. and DC Studios.

The studio has said Reeves has its full support and that production is expected to resume, so this is a pause, not a cancellation.

And that distinction matters, because this movie has already spent enough time making Batman fans nervous.

The sequel to 2022’s The Batman was originally expected much earlier, but its release has moved multiple times during development. It is currently scheduled to arrive in February 2028.

Yes, 2028.

Robert Pattinson is returning as Bruce Wayne, with Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis also part of the cast. New additions reportedly include Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.

Plot details, however, remain locked somewhere deep inside the Batcave.

The first film turned Pattinson’s Batman into a darker, detective focused version of the character and made more than $770 million worldwide, while also launching Colin Farrell’s The Penguin spin off.

That has made the wait for the sequel particularly noticeable.

For now, though, there is no indication that this latest production pause has changed the February 2028 release date.

And because the reason involves Reeves’ family, there is no need to turn it into internet detective work either.

The movie is still coming.

PSYREN has decided that is not its problem.

The new anime adaptation of Toshiaki Iwashiro’s cult Shonen Jump manga premieres on Crunchyroll today, October 5, finally bringing a series fans have been waiting years to see animated to the screen.

And the setup gets weird very quickly.

The story follows Ageha Yoshina, a high-school student who finds a mysterious red phone card marked with the word “Psyren.”

Then someone disappears.

Then a strange phone call happens.

And before long, Ageha is pulled into a deadly game connected to a mysterious world called Psyren.

So, normal teenager stuff.

The original manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2007 to 2010 and built a loyal fanbase despite never receiving the anime adaptation many readers expected. More than 15 years later, that changes today.

For Moroccan anime fans, there is another important detail: Crunchyroll says the series is streaming worldwide outside Japan and China, which includes Morocco and the wider Middle East and North Africa region.

That makes PSYREN one of the easier new fall anime to actually follow legally as episodes arrive.

And it enters a season that is already fighting aggressively for your free time.

Le Marrakech Short Film Festival a refermé sa sixième édition avec une série de distinctions attribuées à des réalisateurs et productions du Maroc et de plusieurs autres pays. Projections, rencontres et rendez-vous professionnels ont rythmé cette édition, qui a enregistré près de 400 films en provenance de 90 pays.

La dernière journée a également été consacrée à la clôture d’AMANAR, nouveau volet professionnel du festival. Cette première édition a permis à cinq projets marocains de bénéficier d’un accompagnement assuré par 12 professionnels internationaux pendant deux jours.

Trois projets distingués dans le cadre d’AMANAR

Le Development Lab d’AMANAR a été conçu autour de sessions d’accompagnement et de pitch destinées aux cinq projets marocains sélectionnés.

À l’issue de ces travaux, trois d’entre eux ont reçu une distinction. Fragments of an Ordinary Day, porté par Zahra Berrada, a remporté le ZINEBI Industry Award.

Le projet Unsettled, de Maria Dobli Bennani, a obtenu le Prix de post-production Atlantis Studios Marrakech, tandis que Avant Première, de Saad Benidir, s’est vu attribuer le Prix AMANAR du meilleur pitch.

Avec cette plateforme, le Marrakech Short Film Festival ajoute ainsi à sa programmation un volet consacré au développement de projets et à la mise en relation de leurs porteurs avec des professionnels du secteur.

La cérémonie de clôture a ensuite permis de dévoiler le palmarès de la compétition internationale.

Le Prix Belarj du meilleur réalisateur a été attribué à l’Italien Giacomo Bendotti pour The Bridge. Le Prix Nakhil du meilleur film est revenu à My Brother My Brother, réalisé par Abderrahmane et Saad Dnewar, d’Égypte.

Le jury a également accordé une mention spéciale à The Experiment, du réalisateur kazakh Maxim Akbarov.

Le film libanais What If They Bomb Us Tonight, réalisé par Samir Syriani, a pour sa part obtenu le Coup de cœur du jury international.

Sanaa El Alaoui récompensée dans la compétition nationale

Plusieurs productions et professionnels marocains ont également été distingués dans le cadre de la compétition nationale.

Sanaa El Alaoui a remporté le Prix Belarj du meilleur réalisateur pour Aïcha. Le Prix Behja du meilleur acteur ou de la meilleure actrice a été décerné à Sandie Tajdine pour son interprétation dans Les Liens invisibles, réalisé par Aymen Ben Slimane.

Le Prix Nakhil du meilleur film a été attribué à Two Ways de Yassine Iguenfer. Phone Breaker, réalisé par Hamza Atifi, a de son côté obtenu le Coup de cœur du jury national.

Villa 187 primé dans la catégorie documentaire

Le documentaire a également disposé de sa propre distinction. Le Prix Menara du meilleur documentaire a été décerné à Eiman Mirghani pour Villa 187.

Enfin, le Coup de cœur du festival est revenu à Trading Cards de Radheya Jang, représentant l’Australie.

The 17th Issni N’Ourgh International Amazigh Film Festival starts today, October 1, bringing five days of Amazigh cinema and international filmmaking to the city.

And this is not a tiny programme.

Thirty films from 14 countries are being screened at Cinéma Sahara through October 5, with three different competitions alongside films showing outside competition.

The best part?

Screenings are free, depending on available seats.

This year’s edition is built around the theme “Agadir, capital of Amazigh culture”, putting contemporary Amazigh filmmaking in conversation with stories and filmmakers from around the world.

The programme includes Moroccan productions such as Fading Candle, L’élève du village, La Ruse, Tawnza and Sin Igharassen, alongside international films.

The festival officially opens tonight at 7 PM, with Moroccan artist Mohamed Salout receiving the Issni N’Ourgh Solidarity Prize.

There is also an ISSNI OFF event planned for October 2 in Aït Mimoun before the festival closes on October 5.

But beyond the schedule, the interesting part is what a festival like this represents.

Amazigh culture is not something that belongs only in museums, textbooks or conversations about the past.

There is a new generation of filmmakers using cinema to tell those stories right now.

For five days, Agadir is giving them the screen.

Black Clover returns with Season 2 on October 3, bringing the anime back to television after its original run ended in March 2021 following 170 episodes.

That is a very long wait.

Especially when the story basically stopped right as things were getting serious.

The new season picks up around the Spade Kingdom conflict, with Asta and the Magic Knights facing the Dark Triad and their devil powered forces.

If you remember where we left things, Asta had been training alongside Liebe to master Devil Union, while the threat from the Spade Kingdom was getting significantly worse.

Yami and William had been captured.

The Clover and Heart Kingdoms were under threat.

And everyone desperately needed a power upgrade.

Basically, there is a lot to deal with.

Studio Pierrot is returning for the new season, with Ayataka Tanemura directing. Crunchyroll has also confirmed Black Clover as part of its Fall 2026 lineup, including availability across Africa and the Middle East.

So Moroccan fans are included in the comeback.

The return lands in an already ridiculous anime week.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 arrives October 2, Black Clover follows October 3 and Aoashi Season 2 lands October 4.

Junko Takeuchi, the Japanese voice of Naruto, and Noriaki Sugiyama, the voice of Sasuke, will both appear alongside Studio Pierrot executive producer Yoshihiko Tominaga.

The biggest mystery is the animation announcement.

VIZ says the event will include news about a new animated film and its worldwide premiere, but the full details are being saved for the panel.

The 19th International Women’s Film Festival of Salé is currently underway, running from September 28 until October 3.

And the festival is not simply screening movies made by women.

It is looking at women’s place across cinema, culture and storytelling, bringing together filmmakers, actors and audiences from Morocco and abroad.

This year’s programme includes feature films, documentaries, discussions, masterclasses and tributes, turning Salé into a meeting point for people working across different parts of the film industry.

Several Moroccan names are being celebrated too.

The festival is paying tribute to figures including Amal Ayouch, Ibtissam Laaroussi and filmmaker Mohamed Abderrahman Tazi, alongside international guests.

The programme also places special attention on the legacy of Fatima Mernissi, the Moroccan sociologist and writer whose work explored women, power and society.

Netflix wants to tell the story of the person behind him.

A new three part documentary series titled The One About Matthew Perry is coming to Netflix on October 27, almost three years after the actor died at 54.

And yes, the title is deliberately written like an episode of Friends.

But the documentary is not simply another Friends nostalgia project.

The series looks at Perry’s life outside the sitcom that made him globally famous, using previously unreleased family photos and videos alongside interviews with people who knew him personally.

His sister Mia Perry Bowick participates in the documentary, alongside longtime friends and creative collaborators.

The series will explore Perry’s rise to fame, his career and the private struggles that existed behind one of television’s funniest characters.

Perry had spoken openly about his experiences with addiction and recovery during his lifetime, particularly in his memoir.

That part of his story became increasingly important to him. He wanted his legacy to include more than making people laugh.

The documentary arrives more than two decades after Friends ended, but Chandler remains one of the most recognisable sitcom characters ever created.

That makes separating the character from the person complicated.

And that seems to be exactly what the documentary wants to explore.

The two companies have announced their first Dragon Ball partnership, beginning with one of the most obvious things they could possibly build:

The first set contains 1,764 pieces and recreates the iconic moment when Shenron rises after all seven Dragon Balls are collected.

There is also a Kid Goku minifigure riding Kintoun, because obviously Shenron cannot arrive without someone there to make the wish.

Even the base incorporates seven pieces representing the Dragon Balls.

And this is not going to be a one set situation.

LEGO has already confirmed that more Dragon Ball sets are coming in 2027 and beyond, meaning the real question now is which characters and locations are next.

The possibilities are dangerous for anyone with both nostalgia and access to a bank card.

The Shenron and Goku set launches first for LEGO Insiders on November 1, before becoming widely available on November 4.

It is also based specifically on the original Dragon Ball era, rather than jumping immediately into Dragon Ball Z.

After nearly four decades of Goku collecting Dragon Balls, fighting increasingly impossible enemies and somehow still finding time to eat everything in sight, the franchise has unlocked another form.

LEGO ONE PIECE arrives on Netflix today as a two part animated special that rebuilds the world of the live action One Piece series entirely in LEGO.

And Netflix found the perfect character to tell the story.

Usopp.

The special takes place after Chopper joins the crew, with Usopp telling him about the Straw Hats’ earlier adventures across the East Blue and into the Grand Line.

There is only one small problem.

This is Usopp telling the story.

Which means the truth is about to become extremely flexible.

His version revisits major moments involving characters like Mihawk and Arlong, except everything gets exaggerated through Usopp’s very reliable memory.

Basically, Netflix found a canon friendly excuse to remake One Piece as complete LEGO chaos.

There is another detail fans will appreciate.

The English voices are performed by the cast of Netflix’s live action series, meaning Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Taz Skylar and Jacob Romero Gibson are essentially becoming LEGO versions of their Straw Hat characters.

It is silly, nostalgic and very aware that One Piece does not always need to take itself seriously.

The anime has more than a thousand episodes.

The manga has been running since 1997.

The live action series became a Netflix hit.

And somehow there was still one form left to unlock.

Several announcements landed almost simultaneously this week, led by a proper new look at Season 2 of Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian.

The romantic comedy became one of 2024’s breakout anime thanks to a fairly simple problem: Alya occasionally hides what she really feels by speaking Russian, assuming Masachika can’t understand her.

Unfortunately for her, he can.

A new teaser shown around Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2026 has now given fans fresh footage from the upcoming second season, bringing Alya, Masachika and Masha back into the increasingly complicated relationship at the centre of the series. Season 2 is currently expected in 2027.

Then Netflix entered the chat.

Bride of the Barrier Master, an adaptation of Kureha’s fantasy romance light novels, has confirmed that it will stream on Netflix. The series has also revealed additional casting and a new teaser ahead of its planned January 2027 premiere.

The story follows Hana Ichise, a young woman born into a powerful family who has spent much of her life overshadowed by her more gifted twin sister. Naturally, because this is anime, things become considerably more complicated from there.

And then there’s Jujutsu Kaisen.

The franchise is marking the anime’s fifth anniversary with new merchandise in Japan, adding another temptation for anyone whose financial planning tends to collapse whenever Gojo appears on something collectible.

None of these announcements is a gigantic industry-shaking reveal on its own.

Together, though, they’re a pretty good snapshot of what anime fandom looks like now: one eye on next season, another on Netflix, and somehow a third eye checking whether the new merch ships internationally.

The watchlist grows.

Netflix has unveiled TYSON, a four-part documentary series dedicated to one of the most famous ,and controversial , figures boxing has ever produced.

The series goes all the way back to Tyson’s childhood in Brooklyn before tracing the extraordinary rise that turned him into the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history at just 20 years old.

At his peak, Tyson wasn’t simply a successful athlete. He became a global celebrity whose name escaped boxing entirely. His intimidating fighting style, personality and chaotic public life turned him into one of the most recognizable sports figures of his generation.

But Netflix isn’t presenting this as a straightforward sports success story.

The documentary also explores the controversies, legal issues, personal struggles and periods of self-destruction that followed Tyson throughout his life. Tyson himself appears in the project reflecting on that history, including describing his younger self as being “addicted to chaos.”

The trailer moves toward accusations of unchecked power, narcissism and a voice describing Musk as “a man who has lost his mind.”

Musk himself did not participate in the documentary, and has previously dismissed the project as a “hit piece.”

Why is everyone talking about it?

Because this isn’t just another celebrity documentary.

Musk is one of the most recognizable and controversial figures on the internet : Tesla, SpaceX, X, AI, memes, politics, billionaires…

So the real question isn’t just “Is the documentary good?”

La programmation investira plusieurs lieux de la ville, dont le Palais Badii, le Cyber Park, l’Institut français de Marrakech, Meydene, The Folk et le World Storytelling Café favorisant ainsi la rencontre entre les invités internationaux, les professionnels marocains et le public marrakchi.

La compétition nationale mettra en avant plusieurs réalisateurs marocains de la nouvelle génération. Pour le Belarj Prize, cinq films sont en lice : Fading Candle d’Ismail Ait Lahcen, Aicha de Sanaa El Alaoui, Two Ways de Yassine Iguenfer, Mesk Ellil de Rami Adnane et Behind the Curtain’s Edge de Kacem Skalli. Le Nakhil Prize compte trois films, tandis que le Behja Prize en réunit quatre. Quatre autres productions marocaines seront présentées hors compétition.

La compétition internationale réunira, de son côté, des réalisations venues d’Italie, d’Irak, de Chine, du Portugal, d’Australie, du Liban, du Kazakhstan, d’Égypte, d’Espagne, du Royaume-Uni, de Corée du Sud et du Japon.

Parmi les œuvres sélectionnées figurent The Bridge de Giacomo Bendotti, Where The Balloon Led Me de Yasmeen Waleed, The Wind in Ash de Kun Sun, Dog Alone de Marta Reis Andrade, Trading Cards de Radheya Jang, Majonézé de Giulia Grandinetti, What If They Bomb Here Tonight? de Samir Syriani, The Experiment de Maxim Akbarov, My Brother, My Brother de Saad Dnewar et Abdelrahman Dnewar, Ciao! d’Iván Melguizo Martín, Dessert Is Served de Leyla Hattabi, A Scream on the Roof de Jun Cordon et A Very Straight Neck de Neo Sora.

Des films du Cambodge, de France, d’Arabie saoudite et d’Espagne seront également présentés hors compétition.

Le pays à l’honneur pour cette édition sera Malte. Ainsi, neuf courts métrages maltais, entre fiction, animation et documentaire, seront proposés au public marocain. Le Consul général de la République de Malte inscrit cette participation dans une volonté de développer des liens culturels plus forts, une meilleure connaissance mutuelle et l’amitié entre Malte et le Royaume du Maroc.

Porté par une distribution magistrale, notamment la co-réalisatrice Mokhtaria Badaoui et les comédiennes Saadia Bentaieb, Rachida Riahi, Rachida Boughanem, Halima Amrani et Sanya Sridi, le film dresse le portrait vibrant de mères et de filles de la diversité bien décidées à réinventer leur destin.

Selon un communiqué du Centre, les travaux de cette session seront consacrés à l’examen des dossiers soumis à la Commission et à l’émission d’un avis sur leur conformité aux conditions légales et réglementaires requises pour l’obtention de la carte du professionnel du cinéma, conformément aux dispositions de la loi n° 18.23 relative à l’industrie cinématographique et à la réorganisation du CCM, du décret n° 2.25.485 relatif au label « Studio », à la carte du professionnel du cinéma et aux catégories d’activités professionnelles liées à l’industrie cinématographique, ainsi que de l’arrêté du ministre de la Jeunesse, de la Culture et de la Communication n° 2194.25 fixant la liste des catégories d’activités professionnelles liées à l’industrie cinématographique.

Le CCM adressera, par courrier électronique, des convocations aux professionnels concernés afin qu’ils se présentent à des entretiens avec les membres de la Commission, conclut le communiqué.

La fresque de près de trois heures, adaptée du poème d’Homère vieux de 3.000 ans, a été tournée dans six pays (notamment Grèce, Maroc et Italie), parfois en pleine mer, et avec des caméras iMax, un format de pellicule offrant une résolution unique mais techniquement très contraignant. Budget estimé: 250 millions de dollars.

Porté par un casting prestigieux, avec notamment Matt Damon dans le rôle d’Ulysse, Anne Hathaway ou encore Tom Holland, « L’Odyssée » a largement dépassé les estimations.

Christopher « Nolan est le seul cinéaste actuel capable de s’emparer d’une histoire aussi ancienne, de réunir un casting aussi vaste et accompli et d’en faire un rendez-vous culturel », affirme David Gross, du cabinet Franchise Entertainment Research.

Loin derrière, « Vaiana, la légende du bout du monde », a engrangé 19 millions de dollars.

L’histoire suit Vaiana, une jeune fille polynésienne embarquée dans une aventure à travers l’océan, accompagnée du demi-dieu Maui, pour sauver son peuple d’un mal qui ronge leur atoll.

« Des Minions et des monstres » prend lui la troisième place avec 14,8 millions de dollars de recettes tandis que « Toy Story 5 » prend la quatrième place avec 13 millions de dollars engrangés.

Le film d’horreur « Evil Dead Burn » de Warner Bros clôture ce top 5 avec 5 millions de recettes au box-office.

Le premier cycle met à l’honneur le cinéma indien, premier au monde en nombre de productions. Sélectionnées par l’acteur, réalisateur et producteur Nikkhil Advani, quatre œuvres proposent un aperçu de la diversité du septième art indien, entre grands succès populaires, drames sociaux et cinéma plus expérimental. La première projection, organisée le 6 juillet, s’est tenue en présence de Nikkhil Advani autour du film Kal Ho Naa Ho-Tomorrow May Never Come (2003). Les prochaines séances auront lieu les lundis 13  (Joji de Dileesh Pothan), 20 (Udaan – Flight de Vikramaditya Motwane) et 27 juillet (Om-Dar-B-Dar de Kamal Swaroop) à 19h.

La programmation familiale se poursuit chaque mercredi matin avec des films issus du patrimoine cinématographique mondial. Les jeunes spectateurs pourront découvrir ou redécouvrir des œuvres comme Les Quatre Cents Coups de François Truffaut, Mon voisin Totoro de Hayao Miyazaki, Azur et Asmar de Michel Ocelot ou encore Shrek d’Andrew Adamson et Vicky Jenson.

En partenariat avec le Musée d’Art Contemporain Africain Al Maaden (MACAAL), l’Auditorium Pierre Bergé propose également un cycle consacré aux cinématographies africaines. Intitulé « Chants de l’insolation, mémoires en lumière », ce rendez-vous explore, à travers plusieurs œuvres, les questions de mémoire collective, d’histoire et de création contemporaine sur le continent. La première séance, consacrée à Fad’jal (1979) de Safi Faye, s’est tenue le 2 juillet.

Créé en 2020, le festival se positionne comme une plateforme dédiée au court métrage, avec pour ambition de favoriser la circulation des œuvres, de soutenir les nouvelles générations de cinéastes et de développer des passerelles entre différents publics et scènes cinématographiques. Sa sixième édition est programmée du 25 au 30 septembre 2026 à Marrakech.

Le programme « MARRAKECHsFF Best Of » s’inscrit dans le prolongement des activités du festival au-delà de sa tenue annuelle, à travers des projections organisées dans différents territoires. Selon les organisateurs, cette initiative vise à accompagner la diffusion des courts métrages au Maroc et à l’international, tout en multipliant les espaces de rencontre entre créateurs et spectateurs.

Cette nouvelle étape parisienne intervient après plusieurs projections organisées à Marrakech, Casablanca ainsi que dans d’autres pays, notamment en Palestine, en Jordanie et en Italie.

L’événement se tiendra au Cinéma Grand Action, salle parisienne dédiée au cinéma d’auteur, en présence de membres de l’équipe du festival.

La programmation annoncée comprend une sélection de films issus des précédentes éditions du festival, parmi lesquels Beneath a Mother’s Feet d’Elias Suhail, Milk Brothers de Kenza Tazi, Lady of the Graves de Mohamed Allali et The Crawling Birds de Karim Taj.

Les organisateurs indiquent également que cette soirée accordera une place particulière aux films produits ou accompagnés par le festival, dans le cadre de ses dispositifs de soutien à la création.

Lors de cette édition, plusieurs œuvres ont été présentées, dont le documentaire Umberto Eco: La Biblioteca del Mondo (2023) du réalisateur Davide Ferrario, consacré à la figure de Umberto Eco. Le film propose une exploration de la bibliothèque personnelle de l’auteur, autour des thèmes du savoir et de la transmission.

Le public a également assisté à la projection du film marocain Les Amants de Mogador (2002) de Souheil Ben Barka, ainsi qu’à l’avant-première du long métrage italien Napoli – New York du cinéaste Gabriele Salvatores. Cette diversité de programmation illustre la volonté du festival de croiser les regards et les expériences cinématographiques.

Au-delà des projections, le festival accorde une place importante aux activités de transmission, notamment à travers des masterclass et des rencontres entre professionnels et étudiants. Ces espaces d’échange visent à favoriser une meilleure compréhension des métiers du cinéma et des processus de création.

Dans une déclaration, André Azoulay a souligné que cette édition se distingue par une programmation élargie et une participation notable des jeunes, notamment des lycéens et étudiants. Il a mis en avant le rôle des masterclass comme élément structurant du festival, en offrant un cadre d’apprentissage et de dialogue.

La projection en avant-première du film Quiproquos (2026) du réalisateur Hamid Basket a également été suivie d’une rencontre avec le public, permettant d’aborder les différentes étapes de la création cinématographique.

Pour rappel et après le succès de ‘‘Sofia’’, récompensé au Festival de Cannes en 2018, Meryem Benm’Barek vient de confirmer ici la singularité de son regard et sa capacité à inscrire ses récits dans une dynamique à la fois artistique et sociétale. Le tout en résonance avec les transformations du monde contemporain.

Distribué par Pyramide Distribution, ce film se veut une trajectoire cinématographique ambitieuse, contribuant au rayonnement du cinéma marocain sur la scène internationale.

A cette occasion, l’association ASLI a saisi l’occasion pour encourage vivement le public à venir découvrir cette œuvre qui participe pleinement à la vitalité et à la reconnaissance du cinéma marocain.

Une fiction ancrée dans le réel

Premier passage à la fiction pour Sonia Terrab, Les Jardins du Paradis s’inscrit dans la continuité de son travail documentaire, centré sur les invisibles, les femmes et la jeunesse marocaine. Le film raconte l’histoire de Naïma, une mère célibataire vivant avec son fils Ahmed, 11 ans, dans un bidonville à la périphérie de Casablanca.

Lorsque les autorités décident de démolir le quartier et de reloger ses habitants, Ahmed doit changer d’école. Mais une contrainte administrative se dresse : la signature du père est exigée, alors que celui-ci a disparu depuis des années. Tourné en immersion avec de vrais habitants, le film revendique une approche réaliste, fidèle aux situations vécues.

Une portée sociale et juridique

Au-delà du récit, le film met en lumière une problématique sociale toujours d’actualité. La Moudawana confère en effet la tutelle légale au père, y compris en cas d’absence, ce qui place de nombreuses mères dans des situations administratives complexes. Alors que la réforme du Code de la famille reste attendue, le film soulève un débat sensible sur les droits des femmes et des enfants.

Un parcours international remarqué

Depuis sa première mondiale au Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur, Les Jardins du Paradis poursuit un parcours international soutenu. Le film a notamment obtenu une Mention spéciale du jury au Festival International du Cinéma Francophone en Acadie (FICFA) et a été sélectionné dans plusieurs festivals de référence, dont INTERFILM à Berlin, le Festival National du Film de Tanger, ainsi que des rendez-vous à Louxor, Malmö, Montréal, Lunel et Dakar.

Au total, le court métrage a été programmé dans plus de 20 festivals à travers le monde, témoignant de l’intérêt qu’il suscite auprès du public et des professionnels.

Une coproduction maroco-française

Les Jardins du Paradis est une coproduction entre Iris Productions, basée au Maroc et portée par la productrice Merième Addou, et la société française Cinenovo. Cette collaboration illustre la vitalité des échanges cinématographiques entre les deux pays et la montée en puissance du cinéma marocain sur la scène internationale.

Avec ce double prix à Milan, Sonia Terrab confirme son engagement artistique et social, en donnant à voir des réalités souvent invisibles, à travers un cinéma ancré dans le réel et porté par une forte dimension humaine.

Thriller mêlant satire politique et intrigue criminelle, « Une bataille après l’autre » explore les tensions idéologiques au sein de la société américaine contemporaine. Le film a été distingué par l’Oscar du meilleur film ainsi que par celui du meilleur réalisateur attribué à Paul Thomas Anderson, qui décroche pour la première fois cette récompense après plusieurs nominations au cours de sa carrière.

Lors de son discours, le cinéaste de 55 ans a expliqué avoir écrit ce film « pour [ses] enfants, afin de leur demander pardon pour le bazar que nous leur léguons dans ce monde », tout en exprimant l’espoir que les générations futures puissent « apporter un peu de bon sens et de décence ». Le réalisateur, déjà nommé par le passé pour des œuvres telles que « Magnolia », « There Will Be Blood » ou encore « Licorice Pizza », a également reçu l’Oscar de la meilleure directrice de casting, une nouvelle catégorie introduite cette année.

Le film a par ailleurs été récompensé dans la catégorie du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle pour la performance de Sean Penn. L’acteur américain de 65 ans, qui interprète un militaire suprémaciste blanc dans le film, n’était pas présent lors de la cérémonie pour recevoir ce qui constitue son troisième Oscar.

Michael B. Jordan récompensé pour « Sinners »

De son côté, « Sinners », œuvre du réalisateur Ryan Coogler consacrée à l’histoire et à l’identité afro-américaine, a notamment remporté l’Oscar du meilleur acteur grâce à la performance de Michael B. Jordan.

Dans ce film mêlant éléments fantastiques et références culturelles au blues, l’acteur incarne deux frères jumeaux confrontés à la fois à des forces surnaturelles et à l’héritage du racisme. En recevant sa récompense, l’acteur de 39 ans a rendu hommage aux figures majeures du cinéma afro-américain, déclarant : « Je suis ici grâce aux gens qui m’ont précédé, Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith ».

Il devance notamment Timothée Chalamet, longtemps considéré comme favori pour son rôle dans « Marty Supreme », où il incarne un joueur de tennis de table ambitieux.

Jessie Buckley meilleure actrice

L’Oscar de la meilleure actrice a été attribué à l’actrice irlandaise Jessie Buckley pour sa performance dans « Hamnet », un drame inspiré de la vie de William Shakespeare. Elle y interprète Agnes, l’épouse du dramaturge anglais, confrontée à la perte de leur fils.

Dans les catégories d’interprétation secondaires, Amy Madigan a été récompensée par l’Oscar de la meilleure actrice dans un second rôle pour son rôle dans le film d’horreur « Evanouis ».

Succès technique pour « Frankenstein »

La cérémonie a également été marquée par les distinctions techniques obtenues par « Frankenstein », adaptation réalisée par Guillermo del Toro. Le film a remporté trois Oscars, notamment pour les costumes, le maquillage et la conception visuelle.

Dans la catégorie du meilleur film international, le prix est revenu au long-métrage norvégien « Valeur Sentimentale » du réalisateur Joachim Trier. Le film raconte les retrouvailles difficiles entre un cinéaste et ses deux filles après une longue absence.

Le prix du meilleur film d’animation a quant à lui été attribué à « KPop Demon Hunters », une production diffusée sur Netflix.

Une cérémonie relativement consensuelle

La cérémonie s’est déroulée dans un contexte international marqué par les tensions au Moyen-Orient, mais les références politiques sont restées relativement limitées au cours de la soirée.

Parmi les prises de parole remarquées, l’acteur Javier Bardem a évoqué la situation dans la région en déclarant sur scène : « non à la guerre, libérez la Palestine ».

Dans la catégorie du meilleur documentaire, l’Oscar a été attribué à « Mr. Nobody against Putin », un film consacré à l’opposition politique en Russie.

Lors de cette cérémonie marquée par la présence de stars du septième art ainsi que de personnalités du monde de la culture et des médias, le jury du Festival, présidé par le réalisateur coréen Bong Joon Ho, a annoncé l’attribution du prix au film « Promised Sky », qui était en compétition avec 12 autres longs-métrages provenant de divers pays du monde.

Soutenu par les Ateliers de l’Atlas du Festival, ce film (93 minutes) raconte l’histoire de Marie, pasteure ivoirienne et ancienne journaliste vivant à Tunis, qui accueille Naney, une jeune mère en quête d’un avenir meilleur, et de Jolie, une étudiante déterminée portant les espoirs de sa famille restée au pays.

Le Jury a ainsi distingué une œuvre qui ose regarder le monde autrement, avec une force poétique rare et une vision artistique pleinement engagée dans le réel. Outre le Grand Prix « Etoile d’Or », Debora Lobe Naney a remporté le Prix de l’interprétation féminine pour le film « Promised Sky ».

S’agissant du Prix du Jury, il a été attribué en ex æquo à « My Father and Qaddafi » de sa réalisatrice Jihan K et à « Memory » de Vladlena Sandu, deux films profondément personnels, où l’intime rejoint la grande histoire.

Pour le Prix de la mise en scène, il a été décerné à Oscar Hudson pour « Straight Circle », dont la rigueur formelle et l’inventivité artistique ont marqué les esprits.

Côté interprétation, Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù a reçu le Prix d’Interprétation masculine pour « My father’s Shadow » d’Akinola Davies Jr.

Le jury a également salué la justesse des acteurs Elliot Tittensor et Luke Tittensor dans « Straight Circle » d’Oscar Hudson, leur attribuant une mention spéciale.

S’exprimant à cette occasion, le président du jury de cette édition a exprimé sa joie de participer au Festival International du Film de Marrakech aux côtés des autres membres du jury, adressant ses vifs remerciements aux organisateurs du Festival et à l’ensemble des Marocains.

M. Joon Ho a également souligné que les films en compétition officielle étaient tous excellents, et même si seuls certains ont remporté un prix, ils sont tous gagnants et méritent de chaleureux applaudissements.

Outre le réalisateur coréen Bong Joon Ho, le Jury comprenait aussi le réalisateur, scénariste et artiste visuel brésilien et algérien, Karim Aïnouz, le réalisateur marocain Hakim Belabbes, la réalisatrice et scénariste française Julia Ducournau, l’acteur et cinéaste iranien, Payman Maadi, la jeune actrice américaine Jenna Ortega, la scénariste et réalisatrice canadienne, Celine Song et l’actrice anglo-argentine Anya Taylor-Joy.

Cette 22e édition a également rendu un vibrant hommage à quatre figues majeures du cinéma, des artistes venus d’horizons différents, qui incarnent chacun à leur manière la force universelle du cinéma : Hussein Fahmi, Jodie Foster, Raouya et Guillermo del Toro.

Le programme phare « Conversations » de l’édition 2025 a réuni des personnalités parmi les plus inspirantes du cinéma mondial, notamment le cinéaste coréen Bong Joon Ho, le réalisateur, scénariste et producteur mexicain Guillermo Del Toro, le réalisateur et scénariste australien Andrew Dominik et l’acteur, réalisateur et producteur américain Laurence Fishburne.

Cette édition a aussi vu la participation de 81 films en provenance de 30 pays répartis en plusieurs sections, avec 13 films en compétition officielle, 9 films en « Séances de Gala », 16 films dans le cadre de la section « Hommage », 19 films dans la section « Horizons », 15 films dans la section « 11e continent » et 7 films dans « Panorama du cinéma marocain ».

Selon les organisateurs, le public a répondu présent avec un engouement renouvelé : plus de 47.000 spectateurs ont assisté aux projections, dont 7.000 enfants et adolescents dans le cadre du programme Jeune Public et Famille, confirmant l’importance de la transmission qui fait partie de l’ADN du Festival.

Les Ateliers de l’Atlas ont une nouvelle fois démontré le rôle moteur qu’ils jouent pour les cinémas du continent et de la région. Avec 350 professionnels réunis autour de 28 projets, cet espace de mentorat, d’incubation et d’accompagnement artistique a soutenu des œuvres prometteuses qui nourriront, demain, les écrans internationaux.

Ainsi s’achève une édition marquée par la découverte, le partage et l’audace. À Marrakech, des parcours singuliers se sont dévoilés, des dialogues se sont noués, et des œuvres ont trouvé un écho auprès d’un public attentif. En révélant de nouveaux talents et en saluant des cinéastes confirmés, le Festival International du Film de Marrakech poursuit ce qui fait son identité : un lieu où le cinéma circule librement et continue de rapprocher ceux qui le font et ceux qui le regardent.

L’actrice marocaine a reçu l’Étoile d’Or des mains du réalisateur Nour-Eddine Lakhmari, sous les acclamations du public qui a offert une standing ovation à cette icône du 7e art marocain, incarnant « la voix, la présence et la mémoire du cinéma national ».

Dans une allocution de circonstance, Raouya a fait part de sa profonde gratitude et de ses sincères remerciements à Sa Majesté le Roi Mohammed VI, que Dieu L’assiste, pour la Haute sollicitude dont le Souverain entoure l’art et les artistes.

Elle a également exprimé ses vifs remerciements à Son Altesse Royale le Prince Moulay Rachid, Président de la Fondation du Festival International du Film de Marrakech.

Fatima Harandi s’est dite émue et fière de l’hommage qui lui a été rendu, en signe de reconnaissance de son parcours artistique et de sa contribution à la scène cinématographique nationale.

Pour sa part, le réalisateur Nour-Eddine Lakhmari a salué les hautes qualités humaines et professionnelles de l’artiste Raouya, « une amie sincère », « une femme courageuse » et « un symbole du cinéma marocain que nous aimons, estimons et dont nous sommes fiers ».

Cette cérémonie a été marquée par la projection de scènes de plusieurs films dans lesquels l’artiste Raouya s’est illustrée par des performances remarquables, lui valant une reconnaissance nationale et internationale, attestée par les nombreux prix qu’elle a remportés tout au long de sa carrière artistique.

Par la même occasion, un hommage a été rendu aux artistes marocains décédés au cours de l’année écoulée, en reconnaissance de leur contribution à l’art marocain.

L’artiste Raouya est l’une des figures marquantes du théâtre, du cinéma et de la télévision marocains. Son talent a été révélé sur les planches du théâtre, et sa carrière cinématographique a débuté grâce au réalisateur Mohamed Abazi, qui lui a offert un rôle dans le film « Les trésors de l’Atlas ».

Elle a ainsi attiré l’attention par sa forte présence et a suscité l’intérêt d’une élite de réalisateurs marocains de premier plan, parmi lesquels Saâd Chraïbi, Jillali Ferhati, Nour-Eddine Lakhmari, Narjiss Nejjar, Laïla Marrakchi et Abdelhaï Laraki.

Raouya a participé à des films marquants tels que « Soif, « Shefah Al Samt » et « Les Yeux Secs », pour lequel elle a reçu le prix de la meilleure actrice au Festival national du film de Tanger.

Elle a également participé à des productions internationales de renom, parmi lesquelles figurent « Et maintenant… Mesdames et Messieurs » (Claude Lelouch), « Djinns » (Hugh et Sandra Martin) et « Des Hommes et des Dieux » (Xavier Beauvois).

La comédienne marocaine a remporté, pour son rôle dans le film « Un mile dans mes chaussures » du réalisateur Said Khallaf, le prix de la meilleure actrice en 2016 aux festivals de Tanger et de Carthage, avant d’être honorée en 2018 au Festival du cinéma d’Alexandrie.

Sur le petit écran, Raouya a également marqué les esprits dans des séries marocaines ayant rencontré un large succès, telles que « Mandil Safya », « Moussem Jaf » et « Jabarout ».
