Anime fans might want to make a little more room on the 2027 watchlist.
Several announcements landed almost simultaneously this week, led by a proper new look at Season 2 of Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian.
The romantic comedy became one of 2024’s breakout anime thanks to a fairly simple problem: Alya occasionally hides what she really feels by speaking Russian, assuming Masachika can’t understand her.
Unfortunately for her, he can.
A new teaser shown around Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2026 has now given fans fresh footage from the upcoming second season, bringing Alya, Masachika and Masha back into the increasingly complicated relationship at the centre of the series. Season 2 is currently expected in 2027.
Then Netflix entered the chat.
Bride of the Barrier Master, an adaptation of Kureha’s fantasy romance light novels, has confirmed that it will stream on Netflix. The series has also revealed additional casting and a new teaser ahead of its planned January 2027 premiere.
The story follows Hana Ichise, a young woman born into a powerful family who has spent much of her life overshadowed by her more gifted twin sister. Naturally, because this is anime, things become considerably more complicated from there.
And then there’s Jujutsu Kaisen.
The franchise is marking the anime’s fifth anniversary with new merchandise in Japan, adding another temptation for anyone whose financial planning tends to collapse whenever Gojo appears on something collectible.
None of these announcements is a gigantic industry-shaking reveal on its own.
Together, though, they’re a pretty good snapshot of what anime fandom looks like now: one eye on next season, another on Netflix, and somehow a third eye checking whether the new merch ships internationally.
The watchlist grows.
The bank account suffers.
