And contrary to what many people believe…
This isn’t something that only concerns young men.
It also concerns young Moroccan women.
The law applies to Moroccan citizens generally between the ages of 19 and 25, following the national census process.
But here’s the first thing most people misunderstand.
Being eligible…
Does not automatically mean you’ll end up wearing a military uniform.
Everything starts months before.
Earlier this year, between March and April 2026, eligible young people were identified through the official platform tajnid.ma.
That was the administrative phase.
The goal wasn’t to send everyone to military camps overnight.
It was to identify potential candidates and allow those concerned to complete the necessary procedures.
And then comes the question almost everyone asks.
« Can I be exempt? »
The answer is…
Yes.
But not simply because you ask.
Moroccan law provides several situations where an exemption or postponement may be granted.
For example…
Medical conditions.
Continuing higher education.
Or certain family responsibilities, such as being the primary provider or caregiver.
But here’s the important part.
These aren’t automatic.
Every request is examined individually.
You submit supporting documents.
Authorities review the file.
And a decision is made based on your specific situation.
That’s why two students in seemingly similar situations may not receive exactly the same outcome.
Now let’s talk about something many people forget.
Military service isn’t just military training.
Over the course of the program, recruits also receive physical training, discipline, civic education and, depending on the assignment, professional or technical training that can help them later in civilian life.
For some young people, it’s seen as an opportunity to develop new skills and gain experience.
For others, it’s an interruption to studies or career plans.
Both perspectives exist.
And that’s exactly why the topic generates so much debate every year.
Some people see it as a way to strengthen national cohesion.

Don’t trust anonymous TikTok accounts claiming they know the rules.
The details of your situation depend on your own administrative file and the legal criteria applied to it.
Because when it comes to military service…
The biggest mistake isn’t being selected.
It’s making decisions based on misinformation.
The real question is…
