If you’ve ever used Waze…
You’ve probably experienced this.
« Turn left… Speed camera ahead… Keep right… Traffic reported… Turn slightly right… »
For years, many drivers complained that Waze simply talked too much, constantly interrupting music, podcasts or phone calls.
Now, Google has finally listened.
──────────
The biggest new feature is called « Less Chatty. »
Instead of announcing every single turn, Waze will now reserve voice guidance for what really matters:
Speed cameras.
Road hazards.
Critical turns.
Lane changes.
Essential reminders.
The goal is simple: reduce unnecessary interruptions while keeping the information drivers actually need. It’s a middle ground between full voice guidance and « Alerts Only, » making navigation much less intrusive.
──────────
But that’s only the beginning.
Google is bringing Gemini AI directly into Waze.
Rather than tapping through menus, drivers will soon be able to speak naturally to the app.
For example, you could simply say:
« Find me the cheapest gas station nearby. »
Or:
« Find me an Italian restaurant that’s open right now. »
Gemini understands conversational language and instantly suggests destinations, making navigation much more natural and hands-free.
──────────
Another major improvement focuses on community reporting.
Drivers can now report road closures, accidents or outdated addresses using natural speech instead of navigating through multiple menus.
For example, saying:
« This road is closed. »
is enough for Waze to send the information to local map editors, who verify and update the map for everyone. It makes contributing to the Waze community faster, safer and easier while driving.
──────────
Google is also making navigation more personal.
Instead of always suggesting the mathematically fastest route, Waze will learn from your driving habits.
If you usually prefer highways over city streets—or the opposite—the app will begin recommending routes that match your preferences.
Don’t like personalized navigation?
You can disable it at any time in the settings and continue using the traditional routing system.
──────────
Finally, Waze is introducing a dedicated Motorcycle Mode.
Unlike cars, motorcycles can filter through traffic and often follow different routes. The new mode takes these behaviors into account to provide more accurate ETAs, safer navigation and routes specifically optimized for riders.
The feature is currently rolling out in selected countries before expanding globally.

This update shows that Waze is evolving beyond a traditional GPS.
By combining artificial intelligence, personalized navigation and a less distracting driving experience, Google is transforming Waze into a smarter co-pilot rather than just a navigation app.
And if « Less Chatty » delivers on its promise, it could finally solve one of the biggest complaints drivers have had for years.
