Moroccan footballers have been making noise in France this week, and three of them have earned places in Ligue 1’s Team of the Week.
Achraf Hakimi, Nayef Aguerd and Yassine Gessime were selected in Sofascore’s best XI for Matchday 9, following standout performances for their respective clubs.
But the biggest story belongs to Hakimi.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender delivered one of the most remarkable attacking performances of his career in PSG’s 5–1 victory over Le Havre, scoring his first professional hat-trick and providing two assists.
Yes, a defender was directly involved in all five goals.
Hakimi’s performance earned him a perfect 10/10 rating, highlighting the attacking influence that has made him one of the most recognizable Moroccan players in European football.
And he wasn’t the only Moroccan earning top marks.
At Strasbourg, Yassine Gessime also received a 10/10 rating after scoring twice and assisting another goal in his team’s 5–1 win against Auxerre.
Meanwhile, Nayef Aguerd earned an 8/10 for his defensive performance in Marseille’s 2–0 victory over Toulouse.
While Hakimi and Aguerd are already established names in the Moroccan national team conversation, Gessime’s performances are giving supporters another player to follow.
The recognition also comes at an interesting time, with Morocco preparing to announce its squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Of course, club performances don’t automatically guarantee national team selections, but they certainly give supporters something to discuss.
Three Moroccan players in one Ligue 1 Team of the Week is already impressive. Two of them receiving perfect ratings makes the achievement even more notable.
