Swipe right, pay my bills

Imagine being so rich that instead of swiping through dating profiles, you swipe through strangers’ unpaid bills and decide which ones you feel like paying.

Sounds ridiculous? Well, someone actually turned the idea into an app demo.

It all started on October 22, when X user Destiny Ndlovu shared a suggestion: what if there were an app where people could upload their bills and wealthy strangers could swipe right to pay them?

The concept was basically Tinder, except instead of finding a date, you’re looking for someone willing to cover your electricity bill, rent or student debt.

Naturally, the internet loved it.

The idea quickly went viral, inspiring developers to bring it to life. One of the projects, called Pay My Billy, lets users browse bills through a Tinder-style interface, swiping left to skip or right to express interest in paying.

But before you start uploading every unpaid bill you’ve been avoiding, there’s a catch.

The website is currently an interactive demo, not a verified platform where rich strangers are regularly paying people’s expenses. There’s no evidence that billionaires are actually scrolling through it looking for bills to settle.

The viral conversation also led to misleading claims that Elon Musk was developing a similar app, but those reports have not been substantiated.

Still, the idea says a lot about internet culture today.

Between rising living costs, endless subscription payments and the struggle to make it to payday, people are apparently ready to turn financial survival into a dating-app experience.

And while this particular project hasn’t established itself as a functioning bill-payment service, the concept has already achieved something: making millions of people wish it were real.

Because forget finding your soulmate. Imagine matching with someone who pays your rent.
