Portable cooling devices
are entering a completely different era.
And Sony is doubling down
on one of its strangest —
but most futuristic — products.
—
Sony
has officially unveiled
the new REON Pocket Pro Plus,
a wearable thermal device
designed to cool — or heat —
the user directly from the back of the neck.
—
Unlike a traditional fan,
the device uses a cooled metal plate
placed against the skin,
combined with thermal modules
and airflow systems
to regulate body temperature in real time.
—
The new version introduces:
20% improved cooling performance
redesigned ergonomic neck support
adjustable heat vents
and smarter temperature sensors.
—
Sony says the device
can lower the cooling plate temperature
by an additional two degrees Celsius
compared to the previous generation.
—
Another major focus this year
is discretion.
The REON Pocket Pro Plus
is designed to stay hidden under clothing,
targeting commuters, office workers,
travelers,
and people dealing with extreme summer heat.
—
The wearable also includes:
AI-assisted thermal adjustment
humidity and temperature monitoring
and a companion sensor called Reon Pocket Tag 2.
—
Battery life reportedly reaches:
up to 15 hours in smart cooling mode
or around 34 hours on lower settings.
—
The device launches in Europe
at around €229,
while availability in the United States
remains uncertain for now.
—
This product also reflects
a larger global trend.
As heatwaves intensify worldwide,
companies are increasingly investing
in personal climate-control technology
instead of relying only
on traditional air conditioning systems.
—
The bigger picture:
The REON Pocket Pro Plus may look futuristic or even weird today,
but wearable climate tech is rapidly becoming a serious market
as rising temperatures push companies
to rethink personal comfort and mobility.
