DC isn’t just adapting Batman…
It’s reinventing him.
After officially announcing an animated adaptation of Absolute Batman, creator Scott Snyder has shared the first details about the project—and it won’t be a frame-by-frame copy of the comics.

Snyder confirmed he’ll serve as the series’ showrunner, while co-creator Nick Dragotta joins the production team as a producer.
The goal is to preserve the spirit of the comic while taking advantage of animation to expand the story and characters.
──────────
The series will adapt the Absolute Universe, where Bruce Wayne is no longer a billionaire.
Instead, he’s a 24-year-old working-class civil engineer who grew up in Crime Alley, giving Batman a far more grounded origin than fans are used to.
──────────
This version of Gotham also flips classic DC lore on its head.
Alfred Pennyworth is a former MI6 agent.
The Joker is a powerful billionaire.
Catwoman, Killer Croc and the Riddler are Bruce’s childhood friends instead of lifelong enemies.
──────────
Snyder also revealed that the animated series will expand on moments that couldn’t fit into the comics, allowing the team to explore relationships, action sequences and Gotham itself in greater depth.
The project is aimed at a mature audience, staying faithful to the darker tone that made the comic a massive success, with more than 6 million copies sold.
──────────
No release date has been announced yet.
The show is part of DC Studios’ growing animation slate, alongside projects such as Joker: Laugh Riot and Krypto, as James Gunn and Peter Safran continue expanding the DC universe across film, television and animation.

Forget the billionaire playboy. Absolute Batman is giving fans a younger, tougher and more human Dark Knight—and Scott Snyder says animation is the perfect way to bring that new vision to life.
