Morocco’s next AI isn’t a chatbot , it’s farms and jobs

AI conversations usually end up in the same places: chatbots, image generators and whether your job will still exist in five years.

Three Moroccan startups are taking the conversation somewhere much more practical.

The winners of Morocco’s POESAM 2026 awards are using AI and connected technology to tackle problems in agriculture and recruitment, with projects designed around things people actually deal with.

First place went to AgroLora, an AgriTech startup developing connected tools to help farmers monitor what is happening on their land. By combining IoT technology with artificial intelligence, the platform can collect and analyse agricultural data to help farmers make better decisions.

Then there is Invirtus, which took second place. Its focus is the job market, using AI to assess skills and improve the way companies identify potential candidates.

Third place went to Arwa Solutions, another AgriTech project. Its platform connects farmers with AI-powered advisers, with a particular focus on making agriculture more sustainable.

The competition attracted 345 applications, which were narrowed down to 14 finalists before the three winners were selected. They will now represent Morocco at the international stage of the competition.

And that might be the more interesting AI story happening in Morocco right now.

Not another chatbot writing your breakup text.

Not another generator turning you into an action figure.

Instead, Moroccan founders are asking a much simpler question: where can AI actually be useful?

Apparently, the answer might be everywhere from your next job application to the farm growing your food.
