Morocco talks a lot about football talent. Maybe it’s time we start paying attention to the people holding controllers too.
Competitive gaming and esports continue to grow locally, with tournaments, gaming events and a new generation of Moroccan players trying to turn what used to be dismissed as “just gaming” into something much bigger.
The Morocco Gaming Expo has helped put that ecosystem under a larger spotlight, bringing esports competitions alongside developers, studios, creators and other parts of Morocco’s emerging gaming industry.
And more competitive opportunities are coming.
The event’s esports program is preparing national gaming tournaments, with registrations expected to open for players looking to compete.
But the more interesting story isn’t one tournament.
It’s the community developing around it.
Moroccan players are already active across games like EA Sports FC, Valorant, League of Legends, Free Fire, fighting games and mobile titles. Twitch, YouTube, Kick and TikTok have also made it possible for a talented player to build an audience without waiting for traditional media to notice them.
That raises a bigger question for Morocco: who are the country’s next esports stars?
Because if gaming is going to become a serious creative and digital industry in Morocco, players deserve to be part of that conversation alongside developers and startups.
Maybe it’s time Moroccan esports got its own scoreboard.
