Minecraft players have spent more than a decade asking Mojang for another dimension.
Apparently, persistence works.
At Minecraft Live, Mojang revealed The Sift, a completely new dimension coming to Minecraft and the first major addition of its kind since The End arrived more than 14 years ago.
For context, Minecraft currently revolves around three main dimensions: the regular Overworld, the fiery Nether and The End, home of the Ender Dragon.
The Sift will become number four.
The new area is being designed around exploration and discovery, giving players an entirely new environment to understand, survive and inevitably turn into extremely complicated farms within approximately six hours of release.
And Mojang did not stop there.
Minecraft is also getting Ice Caves, expanding what players can discover underground, alongside new frozen enemies and other additions.
A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also on the way, giving Minecraft another technical upgrade for Nintendo players.
The Sift is especially interesting because Minecraft does not usually make changes this fundamental.
New mobs, biomes, blocks and structures arrive regularly, but adding an entirely new dimension changes the basic structure of a game that hundreds of millions of people already know almost instinctively.
And somehow, 14 years after The End arrived, there are still huge parts of Minecraft’s world left to build.
The game is old enough to have players who grew up with it.
Now they finally have somewhere completely new to get lost.
