When you hear the word museum, you probably imagine paintings on walls, objects behind glass and at least one person telling you not to touch anything.
Meknès is trying something different.
The Institut Français de Meknès is running a Musée Numérique, a digital museum experience inside its media library that puts screens and technology at the centre of how visitors discover culture.
And October might be the perfect month to check it out.
After spending September exploring innovation, the museum is dedicating October entirely to animation cinema.
November will move into digital art, before December closes the programme with theatre and performing arts.
The idea is simple: instead of treating culture as something you only observe from a distance, the digital space uses technology to make exploring collections and creative work feel more interactive.
The programme is also designed for different age groups.
Young people can visit during dedicated sessions every Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning or afternoon, while adult sessions take place on Tuesday evenings. Schools can also register for separate weekly visits.
The full programme runs until December 31.
And honestly, this is the kind of cultural project that is easy to miss if you are not actively looking for it.
Morocco’s museums and cultural spaces are increasingly experimenting with digital formats, and this gives people in Meknès another way to experience art without needing the traditional museum setup.
So if staring silently at a painting for ten minutes has never really been your thing, maybe staring at a screen finally has cultural value.
Your screen time can officially count as a museum visit.
