Manchester United traveled to Italy for a Champions League match.
They left with four goals conceded, another defeat and plenty of questions.
On Wednesday night, Italian side Como delivered one of the most surprising results of the Champions League week, defeating United 4–1 at home.
And at the center of it all was one player: Nico Paz.
The Argentine midfielder opened the scoring after only three minutes, immediately putting the visitors under pressure.
But Como wasn’t finished.
Anastasios Douvikas doubled the lead shortly after halftime, with Paz providing the assist.
Then, in the 57th minute, Paz scored his second goal of the night, making it 3–0.
Jacobo Ramón added a fourth in the 76th minute before Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation goal for Manchester United.
From series A newcomers to champions league giant killers.
What makes the result particularly interesting is Como’s recent journey.
The Italian club only returned to Serie A in 2024 after more than two decades outside the country’s top division.
Now, under former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, they’re competing against some of Europe’s biggest names.
And clearly, they’re not interested in playing the role of underdogs.
For United, the result adds more pressure after a difficult start to their European campaign.
The English club has now lost two of its opening three Champions League matches, following an earlier defeat to Atlético Madrid.
One positive was the return of Matthijs de Ligt after a lengthy injury absence.
But that wasn’t enough to prevent a disappointing night.
For Como, this was more than three points.
It was another reminder that football reputation doesn’t always match what happens on the pitch.
And for Nico Paz, scoring twice against Manchester United is a pretty convincing way to introduce yourself to an even wider audience.
