Kids in Nigeria are already learning AI

While some students are still figuring out how to use ChatGPT without getting caught, kids in Nigeria are being taught AI, robotics and other emerging technologies in school-age programmes.

NITDA has just wrapped up an Emerging Technology Bootcamp in Enugu, where primary and secondary school students got hands-on experience with AI, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, drones, automation and 3D design.

And this is bigger than one bootcamp. Nigeria is increasingly pushing digital and AI skills earlier in education, with the idea that young people shouldn’t just use technology , they should learn how to build with it.

Which raises a question that students everywhere can relate to:

Should AI be something schools teach… instead of something teachers just tell you NOT to use?
