John Legend is switching things up , and he brought Pharrell Williams with him.
The two have announced Muse, a new 16-track album dropping October 23, and this isn’t just a random feature. Pharrell produced and co-wrote the entire project, making it their first full collaboration after more than 20 years of friendship.
And apparently, John Legend is done playing it safe.
Instead of sticking to his usual piano-heavy love songs, Muse mixes R&B, gospel, soul, Afrobeat, hip-hop and doo-wop. Legend says the whole thing has a “Black James Bond” vibe — basically cinematic, smooth and a little dangerous.
The album was recorded in Paris, inside the Louis Vuitton headquarters where Pharrell has his studio. And yes, Pharrell actually appears on six of the tracks. Clipse also feature on Bodies on the Floor.
The first taste is already here: “Daylight”, an upbeat track that gives us a pretty good idea of where this new era is going.
So basically:
John Legend is trading the wedding playlist for something way cooler.
