If migrants enter Spain through Ceuta and then move freely across Europe…
Italy doesn’t want to become their next destination.
So this isn’t about building a wall between Italy and Spain.
It’s about reintroducing passport and identity checks for people arriving from the Schengen area.

The move would be far more symbolic than practical.
Most people travel between the two countries by plane or ferry, and many flights already include identity checks.

Who is responsible for protecting Europe’s external borders?
