Some families pass down businesses, houses or jewelry. The Belmont family passes down the responsibility of fighting monsters, hunting vampires and making sure Dracula doesn’t ruin everyone’s day.

And today, they’re back.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse officially launches on October 15, bringing one of gaming’s most recognizable gothic franchises back with a new story, a new protagonist and plenty of creatures that look like they belong in your worst nightmares.

This time, the adventure takes place in Paris in 1499, more than two decades after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse.

At the center of the story is Rose Belmont, daughter of the legendary vampire hunter Trevor Belmont. And like her father, Rose isn’t exactly living a peaceful life.

Armed with the family’s famous Vampire Killer whip, she must navigate dangerous environments, face powerful enemies and uncover the dark forces threatening the city.

Developed by Konami in collaboration with Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the game returns to the franchise’s beloved 2D action and exploration formula, with faster combat, new equipment and a system that allows Rose to use abilities collected from defeated bosses.

For longtime fans, there’s plenty of nostalgia. For newcomers, it’s an opportunity to discover why Castlevania remains such an influential name in gaming.

And if you recognize the franchise from Netflix’s animated adaptation, this could be your introduction to the games that started everything.

Apparently, being a Belmont means the family business never closes.
