Casablanca is giving the next generation of Moroccan artists a place in the spotlight

Morocco’s next big creative names might not be hanging in international museums yet.

Some of them are still building their careers, experimenting with new ideas and trying to find an audience.

And this November, Casablanca is giving them a place to be seen.

The third edition of Salon Émergences is taking over Villa des Arts from November 4 to December 17, bringing together emerging artists, galleries and professionals from Morocco’s contemporary art scene.

The wider programme features 51 artists, including participants from the main exhibition, an African artist residency and previous award winners.

Of those, 44 artists will be represented in the central exhibition.

And it’s not only aboutCasablanca.

This year’s selection highlights artists from different Moroccan cities, including Tétouan, Mohammedia, Rabat, Agadir and Marrakech.

Among the 43 artists in the main selected cohort, 26 are under 30.

In other words, this isn’t only an event for established collectors.

It’s an opportunity to discover younger artists who are still defining their creative identities.

Organized by the cultural association BASMA in partnership with Fondation Al Mada, the salon includes exhibitions, workshops and opportunities for artists to connect with professionals.

For emerging creatives, that visibility can be important.

Producing artwork is one thing. Finding exhibition space, building relationships and reaching people who might support your career is another challenge entirely.

And with younger Moroccans increasingly discovering illustrators, photographers and designers through Instagram, events like Émergences can bring those online discoveries into physical spaces.

The exhibition also reflects a growing interest in giving artists from outside Morocco’s biggest cultural centers greater visibility.

So if you usually discover art through your Instagram Explore page, this could be an opportunity to experience some of it in person.
