Battlefield 6 May Have Just Killed Off Two Legendary EA Franchises

Battlefield is back…

And its success may have come at a price.

According to several industry observers, Battlefield 6’s strong comeback has made it increasingly unlikely that EA will revive two of its most iconic military shooter franchises: Medal of Honor and Brothers in Arms.

For years, fans hoped EA would bring Medal of Honor back.

The series, which helped define military shooters in the early 2000s, hasn’t received a major new game since Medal of Honor: Warfighter in 2012. Despite regular fan requests, EA has instead focused its resources on making Battlefield its flagship military FPS.

The same goes for Brothers in Arms.

Gearbox’s tactical World War II franchise hasn’t seen a new mainline entry in over a decade. While the series still has a loyal fanbase, there has been no official announcement of a comeback, and the market is now dominated by larger live-service shooters.

Battlefield 6 has changed the equation.

After the disappointing launch of Battlefield 2042, EA invested heavily to rebuild the franchise. The gamble paid off, with Battlefield 6 becoming a commercial success and receiving continuous post-launch support through new maps, modes and seasonal updates.

Many analysts believe EA now has little incentive to split its development teams across multiple military shooters.

Instead of reviving older franchises that could compete with Battlefield, the publisher appears committed to growing a single ecosystem around Battlefield for years to come.

Of course, nothing has been officially cancelled.

Neither Medal of Honor nor Brothers in Arms has been declared dead by their publishers. But with Battlefield now firmly back at the center of EA’s strategy, the chances of seeing either franchise return seem slimmer than ever.

For longtime fans, Battlefield 6 isn’t just a comeback—it’s also a reminder that every successful franchise can leave others behind.
