For the first time in years…
A new Call of Duty won’t be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
And Activision wants to make sure nobody misses that message.

The publisher’s latest ads feature one sentence in huge letters:
« NOT ON XBOX GAME PASS THIS YEAR. »
It’s impossible to miss—and it’s a direct response to the confusion surrounding this year’s release.
──────────
Instead of relying on Game Pass, players who want to jump into Modern Warfare 4 on October 23 will have to buy the game or pre-order a digital edition, which also grants early access to the campaign.
──────────
Why the change?
Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed that new Call of Duty titles would no longer launch day one on Game Pass.
The strategy reportedly allowed Xbox to reduce the subscription price while encouraging more full-price game sales.
──────────
According to Xbox, Modern Warfare 4 is expected to join Game Pass during Holiday 2027.
That means subscribers willing to wait around a year should eventually get access without purchasing the game separately.
──────────
The decision has sparked mixed reactions.
Some players are disappointed after getting used to day-one Call of Duty launches on Game Pass.
Others believe the lower subscription price makes the trade-off worthwhile.

One thing is certain…
Activision isn’t leaving any room for misunderstandings this time.
If you want to deploy on day one… you’ll have to buy your ticket to the battlefield.
