Japan has been struck by another major earthquake.
A magnitude 7.1 quake hit Kumamoto Prefecture, on the southern island of Kyushu, prompting emergency earthquake alerts across several prefectures and an immediate tsunami warning.
Authorities initially warned of tsunami waves of up to one meter and urged residents along the coast to move to higher ground.
A few hours later, the tsunami warning was lifted after no significant waves were detected.
The earthquake caused widespread disruption.
Thousands of homes lost power, high-speed Shinkansen train services were suspended, roads and buildings were damaged, and emergency crews responded to fires and structural collapses. Rescue teams were also deployed after reports of people trapped inside damaged buildings.

Officials are now warning residents to prepare for strong aftershocks and possible landslides in the coming days.
