Moroccan international Ismael Saibari is facing a significant period away from football after undergoing surgery for an ankle injury sustained during Bayern Munich’s 2–2 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
The midfielder was injured following a challenge involving Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Unable to continue, he left the pitch during the first half and was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches, raising concerns about the seriousness of the injury.
Bayern Munich confirmed on November 1 that Saibari had suffered a tear in the syndesmotic ligament of his right ankle, an injury affecting the joint’s stability. The club subsequently announced that the operation had been successful.
Although Bayern has not provided an official recovery timeline, reports from German media suggest that the Moroccan could remain sidelined for approximately three months, potentially delaying his return until February 2027.
The news comes at a difficult moment for both Saibari and the Moroccan national team. With international fixtures approaching in November, his absence would leave the coaching staff without an important attacking option.
Saibari has also shared an update following the procedure, reassuring supporters and expressing his determination to begin rehabilitation.
For now, attention will turn to his recovery and the club’s assessment of when he can safely return to training.
While the possibility of a lengthy absence is a setback, the priority remains ensuring that the midfielder makes a complete recovery before returning to competitive football.
