Morocco has just received international recognition for something that could matter to its next generation of engineers, developers and tech professionals.
Tanger Med Zones has received a 2026 United Nations Investment Promotion Award, recognizing its work in attracting investment connected to the digital economy.
The award was presented during the World Investment Forum in Doha, Qatar.
And Morocco wasn’t the only country recognized.
Organizations from Ethiopia, South Korea, Qatar and the Caribbean were also selected, with five winners chosen from 48 entries representing 40 countries.
What did Morocco actually win for ?
The recognition specifically highlights Tanger Med’s work in attracting digital services and engineering activities.
One of the key examples is the establishment of the ALTEN Delivery Center Maroc at Tétouan Shore.
Through investment support and administrative assistance, the platform helped facilitate an international engineering company’s expansion into the region.
In simpler terms, Morocco was recognized for helping attract companies that bring specialized, technology-related activities into the country.
But what does this mean for young Moroccans ?
When we talk about international investment, the conversation usually focuses on money, factories and economic growth.
But there’s another side to it: jobs.
Digital investment can create demand for software developers, engineers, technology specialists and other qualified professionals.
Of course, winning an award doesn’t mean thousands of jobs suddenly appeared overnight.
What it does show is that Morocco is gaining recognition for its ability to attract companies operating in increasingly technical fields.
For a generation learning coding, AI and digital skills, that’s a development worth following.
Because the real achievement won’t simply be attracting investment.
It will be making sure young Moroccans can benefit from the opportunities that follow.
