Casablanca’s art scene has plans tonight

If your Thursday plans involve scrolling through Instagram and eventually complaining that there’s nothing to do in Casablanca, the city’s art scene would like a word.

Tonight, October 15, Galerie 38 is opening Paraboles – La Rétrospective, an exhibition dedicated to Moroccan contemporary artist Mohammed Mourabiti.

And this isn’t a small collection of recent paintings.

The exhibition brings together work created across nearly four decades, offering visitors a look at how Mourabiti’s artistic language has developed from 1988 to today.

Born in Marrakech in 1968, Mourabiti built much of his visual universe around architecture, landscapes and the relationship between light and shadow.

His move to Tahannaout, near the Atlas Mountains, became another important influence. The surrounding landscapes, earth tones and traditional structures gradually found their way into his work.

One of his recurring inspirations is the satellite dish, an everyday object that he transforms into an abstract artistic form.

It’s an interesting reminder that art doesn’t always begin with extraordinary things. Sometimes, it starts with objects we’ve looked at a thousand times without paying much attention.

The exhibition invites visitors to discover the different chapters of Mourabiti’s career, from his earlier explorations to the visual language that defines his more recent work.

The opening takes place at 7 PM at Galerie 38, on Boulevard Abdelhadi Boutaleb, Route d’Azemmour, Casablanca.

So, if you’ve been looking for something different to do tonight, consider this your sign to give the usual coffee plans a little competition.
