Morocco did not exactly ease into Futsal AFCON.
The Atlas Lions opened their tournament in Rabat with a 4–0 win over Algeria, immediately reminding everyone why they came into the competition as defending champions.
And this is not Morocco chasing its first title.
It is chasing its fourth in a row.
The national futsal team already won the African championship in 2016, 2020 and 2024, so this tournament is basically about whether anyone can finally interrupt that run.
Against Algeria, Morocco looked very comfortable being the team to beat.
The scoreline was clear, the defence held firm and the team started the competition without conceding a single goal.
For a rivalry that always gets extra attention, a 4–0 opening result is a pretty loud statement.
And futsal deserves more of that attention.
The game is faster than traditional football, the space is tighter and everything can change in seconds.
One bad touch can become a goal.
One counterattack can flip an entire match.
That speed is also why Morocco has become so good at it.
The team plays with confidence, quick movement and a level of control that has made it one of the strongest futsal sides on the continent.
Next up is Zambia on October 14, and the expectation is already high.
When you have won three straight titles, you do not really get to arrive quietly anymore.
Every team wants to be the one that ends your streak.
For now, though, Morocco is still very much in control.
One game down. Four goals scored. Zero conceded.
Title number four is officially in motion.
