Casablanca is getting an MMA night this weekend

Casablanca is swapping concert lights for cage lights this weekend.

PFL Africa is coming to the Complexe Mohammed V on October 10, bringing professional MMA back to Morocco with a card built around fighters from across the continent.

For anyone who does not spend their evenings watching people get kicked in an octagon, PFL stands for Professional Fighters League, one of the major international MMA organisations outside the UFC.

Its African league was created to build a clearer route for fighters from the continent to compete professionally without immediately having to move their careers overseas.

And this weekend, that route goes through Casa.

The event is part of PFL Africa’s growing presence on the continent, with fighters competing across different weight divisions and chasing places further into the organisation’s African competition.

For Morocco, the interesting part goes beyond one fight card.

Combat sports already have a huge audience here. Boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai have produced Moroccan names with international followings, while MMA has been growing quickly among younger fans.

Putting a major MMA event inside Complexe Mohammed V gives that audience something it does not get very often: a professional international fight night at home.

It also gives Stache one obvious assignment.

Find the fighter everyone is going to be talking about before they enter the cage.

Because on October 10, Casa is getting a different kind of main event.

No football. No concert. Just a cage and a lot of bad intentions.
