Morocco’s AFCON 2027 qualification campaign is looking pretty clean so far.
Two games. Two wins. Four goals scored. Zero conceded.
The Atlas Lions defeated Lesotho 2 to 0 in Bloemfontein yesterday, collecting another three points after opening their campaign with the exact same score against Gabon.
This time, Brahim Diaz and Azzedine Ounahi got the goals.
Morocco controlled most of the match but initially struggled to turn possession into something dangerous.
The breakthrough finally came right before halftime.
Diaz found the net in the 45th minute, sending Morocco into the break with the lead after spending much of the first half putting pressure on Lesotho.
The second goal took a little longer.
In the 82nd minute, Soufiane Rahimi found Ounahi, who finished the move and gave Morocco the breathing room it needed.
Final score: 2 to 0.
Again.
The result leaves Morocco with six points from its opening two qualifiers, strengthening its position at the top end of Group A.
And perhaps the nicest number so far is still zero.
Morocco has yet to concede a goal in this qualification campaign.
There is obviously a long way to go before AFCON 2027, with the next qualifying matches coming in November.
But as opening weeks go?
