The Straw Hats have survived the Grand Line, Marines, sea monsters and some truly questionable decisions from Luffy.
Their latest challenge?
Being turned into tiny plastic people.
LEGO ONE PIECE arrives on Netflix today as a two part animated special that rebuilds the world of the live action One Piece series entirely in LEGO.
And Netflix found the perfect character to tell the story.
Usopp.
The special takes place after Chopper joins the crew, with Usopp telling him about the Straw Hats’ earlier adventures across the East Blue and into the Grand Line.
There is only one small problem.
This is Usopp telling the story.
Which means the truth is about to become extremely flexible.
His version revisits major moments involving characters like Mihawk and Arlong, except everything gets exaggerated through Usopp’s very reliable memory.
Basically, Netflix found a canon friendly excuse to remake One Piece as complete LEGO chaos.
There is another detail fans will appreciate.
The English voices are performed by the cast of Netflix’s live action series, meaning Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Taz Skylar and Jacob Romero Gibson are essentially becoming LEGO versions of their Straw Hat characters.
It is silly, nostalgic and very aware that One Piece does not always need to take itself seriously.
The anime has more than a thousand episodes.
The manga has been running since 1997.
The live action series became a Netflix hit.
And somehow there was still one form left to unlock.
LEGO Luffy has entered the Grand Line.
