Raul Rosas Jr. has won his first UFC main event at only 21 years old, defeating veteran Raoni Barcelos and adding another huge milestone to one of the strangest career timelines in modern MMA.
Rosas became famous after signing with the UFC at only 17, making him the youngest fighter ever signed by the organisation.
Naturally, that came with ridiculous expectations.
People were already talking about championships before he had even finished being a teenager.
His career has not been completely perfect. Rosas suffered an early UFC loss that slowed down some of the hype and reminded everyone that, despite competing against grown professionals, he was still incredibly young.
Since then, however, he has rebuilt.
Against Barcelos, Rosas entered his first main event facing a veteran with years more experience. The fight went deep, reaching the fifth round before Rosas secured the finish and extended his winning streak.
The ending was serious, with Barcelos briefly losing consciousness during the sequence, so this was not exactly the kind of finish that needed a huge celebration.
But from a sporting perspective, the result matters.
