If sleeping peacefully was part of your plans this week, Silent Hill has other ideas.
Silent Hill: Townfall is here, bringing one of gaming’s most unsettling horror franchises back with another reason to play with the lights on , and maybe keep one headphone slightly off, just in case.
But Silent Hill has never been about throwing random monsters at you every thirty seconds. The franchise built its reputation on psychological horror: disturbing environments, uncomfortable stories and that constant feeling that something is wrong even when nothing is happening on screen.
Townfall takes that formula into a new story with its own characters and mystery. The game comes from Screen Burn, the studio previously known as No Code and responsible for Stories Untold and Observation. If those games proved anything, it’s that this team knows how to make players uncomfortable without relying entirely on cheap jumpscares.
That made the partnership with Silent Hill interesting from the beginning.
It also arrives during a major revival for the franchise. After spending years relatively quiet, Konami has been rebuilding Silent Hill through remakes, new games and different takes on its horror universe.
And Townfall has always looked like one of the stranger projects in that comeback.
For horror fans, that might be exactly the appeal. You’re not necessarily looking for another game that makes you scream once and move on. You want something that stays in your head after you’ve turned the console off.
So yes, headphones on. Lights off.
Sleep schedule? We’ll deal with that later.
