Drake spent weeks making everyone wonder what “FOMO” meant, and no, he was not preparing to surprise-drop album number 47.
After teasing Fear of Missing Out with cryptic Instagram posts, family photos and a CD case bearing the project’s title, Drake finally revealed that FOMO is a film.
Or, in Drake’s own words, a “not so short film.”
The project premiered on September 15 and is described by Drake as “self-funded surrealism.” It was directed and scored by members of his inner circle and follows the idea of making the absolute most out of one summer.
Which apparently involves Drake driving a neon-green speedboat, working out, wearing a Brat T-shirt and generally living the kind of summer that requires a significantly higher credit limit than ours.
The film also features Sexyy Red and snippets of new music, although FOMO itself isn’t being presented as a new Drake album.
For weeks, fans had been trying to figure out exactly what Drake was teasing. Album? Documentary? Tour? Music video? Another three albums released simultaneously because apparently sleeping is optional?
Turns out: movie.
And because simply releasing a movie apparently wasn’t enough news for one evening, Drake also announced during the FOMO premiere that he’s going on tour in 2027.
So maybe the real FOMO was Drake making sure nobody could stop checking his Instagram.
