Forget the plane ticket. Lisbon is coming to Rabat.
The Fado Festival Maroc returns to the Théâtre National Mohammed V on September 10 and 11, bringing two nights of Portuguese music, cinema and stories from the streets of Lisbon. This is the festival’s 9th Moroccan edition and its 16th edition worldwide.
This year, the whole festival revolves around the neighborhoods of Lisbon , from Alfama and Mouraria to Bairro Alto and Madragoa, the places that helped shape the sound and culture of fado.
The lineup is giving more than just concerts.
On September 10, Portuguese singer Teresinha Landeiro takes the stage at 8 PM, after a 6:30 PM conference exploring the connection between fado and Lisbon’s neighborhoods.
On September 11, the program mixes a screening of the documentary Do Bairro with a performance by Rodrigo Costa Félix and Ana Margarida Prado, also at 8 PM.
So if you’re in Rabat and want something different this week, this might be your sign to swap your usual playlist for some Portuguese melancholy and nostalgia.
