It’s actually happening.
Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that Jim Carrey will star as George Jetson in a live-action adaptation of The Jetsons.
The project is planned for after 2027, so don’t expect to see it in cinemas this year.
But the fact that it’s officially moving forward?
That’s already wild.
Because if you’re a 25-to-30-year-old who grew up watching Cartoon Network…
You probably know exactly who we’re talking about.
George Jetson.
The dad.
The flying car.
The futuristic apartment.
The robot maid Rosie.
The dog Astro.
And a family living in a world where technology was basically 60 years ahead of its time.
The original Jetsons debuted way back in 1962.
And here’s the crazy part:
A lot of the technology imagined by that cartoon doesn’t even feel futuristic anymore.
Video calls?
Normal.
Smart homes?
Normal.
Robotic assistants?
We’re getting there.
Automatic doors?
Obviously.
Flying cars?
Okay…
We’re still waiting.
But that’s what made The Jetsons so iconic.
It wasn’t really predicting the future perfectly.
It was imagining what everyday life might feel like in the future.

Hollywood wants to bring that world into ours.
But there’s one enormous question.
Can this actually work as live action?
Because The Jetsons is basically a giant cartoon built around absurdity.
Everything is exaggerated.
The machines.
The architecture.
The characters.
The jokes.
The whole aesthetic.
Turning that into live action without making it look like a gigantic CGI commercial is going to be difficult.
But then…
You remember who’s playing George.
Jim Carrey.
And suddenly the casting starts making sense.
Because Carrey has spent his entire career turning completely ridiculous characters into something audiences actually love.
The Mask.
Ace Ventura.
Liar Liar.
Bruce Almighty.
And more recently…
Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic movies.
So if Hollywood needs someone who can walk into a completely insane futuristic world…
And somehow make it feel normal…
Jim Carrey is a pretty convincing choice.
The project is also being developed with Colin Trevorrow, who is attached to direct, while Trevorrow and Joe Epstein have been involved with the screenplay.
But don’t get too excited yet.
There is no confirmed release date.
The movie is currently positioned in Warner Bros.’ slate for releases beyond 2027.
And there’s another reason this project is interesting.
Hollywood is currently obsessed with something:
nostalgia.
We’ve seen old cartoons…
Old video games…
Old superheroes…
Old franchises…
Coming back again and again.
Because studios know something very important.
If your audience already knows the name…
You don’t have to explain what you’re selling.
And The Jetsons has something even more valuable.
A world that can be completely reinvented for modern audiences.
Imagine what a 2026 version could look like.
AI everywhere.
Autonomous flying vehicles.
Humanoid robots.
Virtual reality.
Smart homes.
Remote work.
Corporate dystopia.
Suddenly…
The Jetsons don’t even need to predict the future anymore.
They could parody our present.
And that’s where Jim Carrey could absolutely destroy this role.
Imagine George Jetson trying to survive a world where his house is smarter than he is…
His robot assistant knows everything…
His boss expects him to be available 24/7…
And his flying car has a software update every morning.
That’s basically modern life…
But in space.
And honestly?
That’s probably the direction this movie needs.
Don’t simply remake the cartoon.
Update the joke.
Because the funniest thing about The Jetsons today might be realizing that the future we once laughed at…
Is slowly becoming our reality.
So yes.
Jim Carrey is George Jetson.
The flying cars are coming back.
Rosie is probably getting an AI upgrade.
And Hollywood is once again opening the nostalgia vault.
The only question is…
Will this become the funniest live-action reboot we’ve seen in years… or will Hollywood finally prove that some cartoons should stay cartoons?
