Since Fallout 4 changed the wasteland forever.
And after years of rumors, Bethesda has finally confirmed it.
Fallout 5 is real.
But before you start counting the days…
You might want to sit down.
Right now, Fallout 5 is only in pre-production.
Bethesda says the game is being built on its brand-new Creation Engine 3, alongside The Elder Scrolls VI. The problem? Elder Scrolls is still the studio’s top priority, meaning Fallout 5 remains a long-term project.
So when can we actually play it?
According to current estimates, don’t expect Fallout 5 before 2033… or even 2035. That would make it nearly 20 years after Fallout 4—one of the longest waits between two major entries in gaming history.
But there’s good news.
Todd Howard has confirmed that the Amazon Fallout TV series is now part of the franchise’s official timeline. That means the events, characters and world introduced in the show will influence Fallout 5’s universe, creating a stronger connection between the games and the series than ever before.
As for the setting…
Nothing has been officially revealed.
However, many fans believe the next adventure could return to the American West, possibly near Los Angeles, where the TV series takes place, or even revisit locations connected to New Vegas. For now, that’s still speculation.
And here’s where things get really interesting…
Fallout fans won’t have to wait a decade for new content.
Bethesda has confirmed Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas Remasters, while Obsidian Entertainment—the studio behind the beloved New Vegas—is officially developing another major Fallout game alongside Fallout 5.
So even if Fallout 5 is still years away…
The wasteland is far from empty.
Between remasters, a brand-new Fallout project from Obsidian, ongoing Fallout 76 expansions, and the TV series, the franchise is entering one of its busiest periods ever.
The real question is…
Can Fallout 5 possibly live up to twenty years of expectations… or is that an impossible mission for any game?
