Nobody expected this.
When PlayStation announced Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, most fans thought it would be another superhero fighting game trying to copy Marvel vs. Capcom.
But after getting their hands on it…
Many journalists are saying the exact same thing.
This game might actually be the banger of the summer.
So… what’s making everyone so excited?
First, the developers.
The game is being built by Arc System Works, the legendary studio behind Dragon Ball FighterZ, Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. If you’ve played any of those games, you already know what that means: fast combat, incredible animations and gameplay that’s easy to pick up… but difficult to master.
But here’s where Marvel Tokon changes the formula.
Instead of the classic 3-versus-3 system made famous by Marvel vs. Capcom, this game lets you build a team of four heroes who all share the same health bar.
That completely changes the strategy.
You’re constantly switching fighters, chaining assists and creating spectacular combos that feel straight out of an anime.
And visually…
The game looks insane.
Spider-Man, Wolverine, Storm, Iron Man, Magneto and Captain America have all been redesigned with Arc System Works’ signature anime style, making every punch, explosion and ultimate attack look like a cinematic scene.
Even better?
Early previews say the controls are surprisingly accessible.
Beginners can pull off flashy moves without spending hundreds of hours learning complex inputs, while competitive players still have plenty of depth to master. It’s a rare balance that fighting games often struggle to achieve.
Of course, there’s still one concern.
The launch roster includes 20 characters, and some fans think that’s a bit small for a 4-versus-4 fighting game. But with post-launch updates already expected, many believe the roster will keep growing over time.
One thing is already clear.
Marvel Tokon isn’t trying to be Marvel vs. Capcom 4.
It’s trying to become the next great Marvel fighting game.
And if the final version delivers everything the previews are promising…
This could be one of 2026’s biggest surprises.
The only question left is…
Will Marvel Tokon become the next fighting game everyone plays… or just another superhero game people forget a few months later?
