The relief was short-lived.

After several consecutive price cuts, fuel prices are rising again across Morocco starting July 16 at 12:01 a.m., impacting both diesel and gasoline drivers.

According to distributors, diesel—the country’s most widely used fuel—has increased by 65 to 70 centimes per liter, depending on the brand. Unleaded gasoline has also become more expensive, with an increase of around 38 to 39 centimes per liter.

This price adjustment follows a brief period of declines at the beginning of July, when motorists benefited from lower pump prices. However, the rebound reflects renewed pressure on international oil markets, driven by geopolitical tensions and higher crude oil prices, which continue to influence Morocco’s fuel import costs.

For households and businesses, the increase goes beyond filling up the tank.

Higher diesel prices can quickly affect transportation, logistics, agriculture and food distribution, sectors that rely heavily on road transport. Economists warn that sustained increases in fuel costs can eventually feed into the prices of everyday goods and services, putting additional pressure on purchasing power.

It’s also worth remembering that fuel prices in Morocco are liberalized, meaning each distributor sets its own prices based on international market conditions, import costs and commercial strategy. As a result, motorists may notice slight differences from one service station to another.

While this increase may seem modest, it marks the end of a short period of relief for Moroccan drivers. And with oil markets remaining highly volatile, future pump prices will continue to depend largely on global energy trends and geopolitical developments. For now, filling up your tank will once again cost a little more.
