The name comes from its unique design.

The complex is built around eight interconnected octagonal buildings, representing the different branches of the Egyptian Armed Forces. Together, they form an integrated command center designed to coordinate military operations, national security and crisis management from a single location.

The scale is enormous.

Spanning around 22,000 acres (roughly 89 square kilometers), The Octagon is part of Egypt’s ambitious New Administrative Capital project, one of the country’s largest infrastructure developments aimed at relocating key government institutions away from central Cairo.
