Figma introduces code layers, animations and powerful new AI tools

Figma is taking a major step toward becoming more than just a design platform, at its Config 2026 conference,

the company unveiled a series of new features that bring design, code and AI closer together than ever before.

─────────

One of the biggest announcements is Code Layers, a feature that allows teams to work directly with code inside

the Figma canvas, developers can clone repositories, transform code into editable design elements and sync

changes back to development projects without leaving the platform.

─────────

Figma is also introducing native support for animations, transitions and 3D transforms.

Previously, designers often had to rely on external software for motion design.

Now, these effects can be created, edited and refined directly inside Figma.

─────────

Artificial intelligence plays a central role in the update.

Users can generate animations through simple text prompts, while new AI-powered shader tools make it possible to create

advanced visual effects such as blur, pixelation and other graphic treatments with minimal effort.

─────────

The company has also introduced generative plugins, allowing users to build custom tools through prompts rather than traditional coding.

Teams can create reusable workflows and automate repetitive tasks without requiring extensive technical expertise.

─────────

In addition, Figma is expanding the capabilities of its AI assistant with new skills, deeper integrations and improved

collaboration features designed to help teams work more efficiently across design and development.

─────────

One thing is clear.

Figma is evolving from a design tool into a complete creative platform where code, motion and AI work together on a single canvas.
