The fight is over.
The result is official.
But the debate?
It’s only getting started.
─────────
Following Alex Pereira’s controversial loss to Ciryl Gane, another UFC champion has stepped into the conversation.
This time…
It’s Alexander Volkanovski.
─────────
Reviewing the fight, Volkanovski said he believes Pereira has every right to question the finish.
According to him, several punches landed to the back of Pereira’s head, an illegal target under MMA rules, and those strikes had a direct impact on his ability to recover after being hurt.
─────────
Volkanovski was also careful to make one thing clear.
He isn’t accusing Ciryl Gane of cheating on purpose.
In his view, Gane was simply trying to finish the fight.
The real issue, he says, was the officiating.
He believes referee Herb Dean should have warned Gane or stopped the action before the sequence continued.
─────────
This is exactly why the controversy refuses to disappear.
For some fans…
A win is a win.
For others…
Even one illegal sequence is enough to question the legitimacy of the finish.
─────────
What’s making the debate even bigger is that Pereira isn’t alone anymore.
First Dana White admitted the sequence deserved discussion.
Now Volkanovski, one of the UFC’s most respected champions, has publicly backed Pereira’s concerns.
─────────
In MMA, the smallest detail can change everything.
One punch.
One warning.
One referee’s decision.
Sometimes…
That’s all it takes to change the outcome of a world-title fight.
─────────
And now, fans are asking the same question.
Should the UFC move on…
Or give Pereira the rematch he believes he deserves?
─────────
But here’s the real question…
When an illegal strike may have influenced the end of a fight… should the result stand, or does every champion deserve a second chance?
