Sony is preparing to remove access to major streaming services — including Netflix, Spotify,
Prime Video and Google Cast — from a wide range of its older home entertainment devices starting November 2026.
─────────
The change will affect around 70+ devices, including Blu-ray players, AV receivers, soundbars, home theater systems
and wireless speakers. These products will lose their online and streaming functions, even though they will still work for offline use.
─────────
According to reports, the update will take effect on 17–18 November 2026, when Sony will fully
shut down the network services powering these apps on the affected models.
─────────
While users will still be able to: Play Blu-ray discs , use HDMI connections , access basic offline audio/video functions
They will no longer be able to stream directly from built-in apps.
─────────
Sony has not given a detailed technical explanation, but the move is widely seen as part of a broader strategy
to reduce maintenance costs and phase out support for older connected devices.
─────────
The decision affects many long-used models, meaning some customers who bought these devices for their
“smart features” will now need external streaming devices or newer hardware to continue accessing online platforms.
─────────
One thing is clear:
this marks a major shift in how long consumer electronics can keep their smart features before support ends.
