Anthropic has officially released Claude Fable 5, a new AI model that represents the first public-access version
of its more advanced Mythos-class system, according to a company announcement on June 9, 2026.

Fable 5 is designed as a safer, controlled version of the internal Mythos 5 model.
While both share the same underlying architecture, the public version includes strong guardrails that limit
or block responses in sensitive domains such as cybersecurity, biology, and chemistry.

Instead of answering high-risk prompts directly, the system automatically redirects them to a less
capable fallback model (Claude Opus 4.8), ensuring tighter safety control for general users.

Despite these restrictions, Anthropic says Fable 5 is its most powerful model released for general use,
with strong performance in areas like software engineering, reasoning, and complex knowledge work.
Access is being rolled out gradually through Claude’s API and subscription plans, with broader availability planned via a controlled “trusted access” program.
