Morocco Is Betting Big on Gaming, and the Crown Prince Just Sent a Strong Signal

actualité maroc

Gaming is no longer just entertainment.

For Morocco,

it is becoming a strategic industry.

And this week,

that ambition received one of its strongest endorsements yet.

Moulay El Hassan

officially inaugurated the 3rd edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo 2026 in Rabat, a major event dedicated to video games, esports and digital creative industries.

The event runs from May 20 to May 24 under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI and is held under the theme:

« Moroccan Talent. »

And this isn’t just another gaming convention.

The Kingdom wants to position itself as a regional hub for: video game development,

esports,

digital creativity,

and gaming startups.

During the visit,

the Crown Prince toured the exhibition area, where Moroccan studios, startups, telecom operators, hardware manufacturers and cloud gaming providers are showcasing their latest projects and technologies.

One of the highlights this year is the introduction of new zones such as:

🎮 MGE PlayTest

🎤 MGE Talks

dedicated to showcasing Moroccan developers and local gaming talent.

The Expo also features: professional forums,

masterclasses,

business meetings,

esports tournaments,

and networking sessions between investors and game studios.

Perhaps the strongest message came from the government’s long-term vision.

Morocco sees gaming not only as a cultural sector,

but also as a source of:

high-skilled jobs,

foreign investment,

innovation,

and economic growth.

The Crown Prince also officially launched an esports football tournament during the event, reinforcing the growing importance of competitive gaming in Morocco.

Just a few years ago,

Morocco’s gaming industry was still relatively small.

Today,

the country is openly talking about becoming one of Africa’s leading gaming ecosystems.

And with royal-level attention,

international partners,

and a new generation of Moroccan developers entering the scene,

the message is clear:

Morocco doesn’t just want to play the game anymore. It wants to help build it.
