Tonight in Casablanca, the stage is being opened to bodies that don’t always get represented on it.
Nabda Show :Dance for All takes place tonight, September 16, at the Studio des Arts Vivants, bringing together dancers with and without disabilities for an inclusive performance built around movement, difference and what happens when everyone is given the same space to create.
The project has brought together 50 dancers, who have spent months rehearsing for tonight’s performance.
Rather than treating disability as something separate from the performance, Dance for All places dancers with different bodies, ages and experiences together within the same choreography.
The approximately 90-minute show tells the story of a life transformed following an accident, exploring how someone can rebuild their relationship with themselves, other people and physical difference.
There will also be moments of humour, with Lilia Benchabane making a special appearance.
Behind the project is the Nabda Foundation, which has been working with the dancers throughout the year around a pretty simple idea: inclusion becomes much more meaningful when people actually create, rehearse and perform together.
And tonight, Casa gets to see the result.
Because representation isn’t only about who gets put on a poster.
Sometimes it’s about who gets the stage.
